boost limiter mod.

today i decided to work on my car and take out the boost limiter. i took out the intake MAS and unscrewed the solenoid and unpluged both hoses and carefully unscrewed the limiter cap from the opening with a small screw. just when i thought everything was done and thought i placed everything back to where it should be. i went for a drive. surprisingly, the car lost a tramendous amount of power. it felt like it wasn't sucking in enough air. the boost wasn't hitting any higher than 11psi. the worst of that was before 3000RPM (turbo kicks in) the car would launch like a snail. so the little innocent ME thought, I AM FUCKED!!. WHAT HAVE I DONE. i tried to call Vince and cry out for help. !! but the man wasn't available. so i went home to the garage again, and checked everything, found out that the electrical connector that goes to your MAS wasn't plugged back in. i kicked myself and felt like an idiot. so i closed the hood, and went out for a drive again. this time, 16psi no problem sometimes even 16.5. i felt the power was back !!

before i was hitting only 14-15 averag sometimes occasionally 16 due to the boost creep. now it does 16 easily, smooth like a butter. just thought i'd share my little insignificant experience with you

BTW, what does the electrical connector to your MAS do.

Re: boost limiter mod.

You mean what does plugging in the MAS do? Well, running without it is like having your car estimate how much air is coming in, and the A/F ratio is screwed.

I opted for the MBC and get rid of that crappy BCS.

Re: boost limiter mod.

Not likely at all to have hurt anything. If your MAS goes out, the car is supposed to run still so you can get it somewhere to have it fixed.

Re: boost limiter mod.

So what exactly is this boost limiter mod supposed to help again? Looks to me like it just comfortably raised the stock boost 1-2 PSI.

Re: boost limiter mod.

Umm.. that's what it does. Raises boost. It's actually not a bad alternative to a MBC on a stock turbo, considering you'd only run 16psi at max reliably.

Well I'm just saying, the MAS isn't 100% necessary to run. I've never heard of a MAS going bad.

Re: boost limiter mod.

scottie i think it's the same thing i was talking about. it's the lower opening on the solenoid that has a ring inside you're suppose to remove.

Re: boost limiter mod.

Let's make a few connections:
Atmospheric pressure: 14.7psi
Stoichiometric ratio (perfect A/F): 14.7:1
1 bar (bariometric pressure... aka. atmospheric): 14.7psi

Perfect A/F is 14.7:1 for complete combustion. Wow, that's like.. 1 pound of air and 1 pound of fuel in weight, which happens to be 14.7:1 in volume.
