2003 oil filter
Is the oil filter for a 2003 located on top driver's side? I see a black cap that looks like it would be the place for the filter. My first time for this car. Thanks.. T

Re: 2003 oil filter
just go get it done for 30 bucks, so much easier and it only costs like 15 bucks more for them to do it...

Re: 2003 oil filter
Are you servicing a 2.2 Ecotec or 3400 engine?

Re: 2003 oil filter
Just to add to the previous post:
You'll have to remove the black plastic protector that's under the vehicle. It will make access to the filter much easier. There are two little plastic screws on each end of the protector which you'll have to unscrew to remove the cover. I believe this is there to protect the filter from damage. It's also nice incase you have to service the starter. It's right there. If you need help finding the filter on the 2.2 Ecotec, I can't help there. Sorry about that. I obviously own the 3.4L. Jeremy BTW, don't pay anyone else to do it. No matter which engine you are serivcing, it's pretty easy, you'll save a few bucks, and you will know how to do it from now on. |

I got the job done a few weeks ago. It was very easy. I like working with this type of oil filter, very little mess. So thanks for the info.

Do you have any hints for getting the cap off? Is a socket the best tool to use? If so do you know what size it is? The 2003 Alero is my newest vehicle. Is this style of filter being used on the newer vehicles? Thanks |

Well, a socket is the best way to get it off, and be careful, those black caps are known to break, but there is a bit of locktite on the threads to keep the seal good, but it should juts turn off,and then you pick the filter up and pull it out
(i don't know what size the socket is tho, just keep trying some till you find one that fits...)
