Torque Convertor Lockup Questions 92 Park Ave

My torque convertor is slipping while in lock up mode, So say the OTC 4000 scan tool I borrowed.

Is this like a clutch slipping? or am I grinding metall into the pan?

This only means that the torque converter clutch solenoid is bad. This car uses a lockup torque converter. It is no longer locking up. This condition will cause a slight reduction in gas mileage-that is all. The torque converter does the job of a clutch, but it does it with tranny fluid. Very few cars even came with a lockup style torque converter until the early 90's. Just be glad it didn't go bad while engaged. It will cause a stall. You may wish to unplug it so that it does not engage and get stuck in lock up mode. This item is a fairly common problem and if you repair it yourself it cost about $50 and a couple of hours. You must remove the valve body cover on your tranny. Good luck.

it is very possible that your lockup clutch is slipping, it a more common problem then you would think. if you know that your tranny is good, the color and smell of the tranny fluid would be the quick tell tell sign that something is slipping. Also like public said, could be your selinoid. check your connector make sure that there is no corroision or anything like that

Update. Today I had the torque coverter replaced. The car doesn't slip in lockup mode, but now I have another related problem. But I'll start a new thread
