V-tech

I just heard that all of hondas new cars are v-tech...is this true?

What is v-tech exactly? and does it pose a real threat to MX3s on the strip?

I've beat a couple V-tech civics, but I don't know what their full potential is.

Re: V-tech

V-Tech is a Phone... LOL

it's Vtec, Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control A Honda proprietary system in which cam timing, valve duration and lift is varied according to the needs of the driver -- fuel economy (normal driving) and power (pedal to the metal). Each cam has two profiles and rpm determines the shifting from one profile to the other.

BTW I found that on Google and it was one of the first results, try there first before asking here dude, you'll get your answers faster.

Re: V-tech

V-tech engines on EG6 Civics have no worry for the stock K8 V-6, now newer civics like the EK9, and the new ones (unsure of the #) but those have a good bit of more HP than our stock V-6... but with a tuned KLZE even the top end V-techs put out around 215hp (If I remember correctly for the new SI civic) but we should be able to toast it... the SRT-4 is a little bigger of a worry, mainly cuz it has a turbo and inercooler even stock it only puts out 215, but after tuning these newer cars could be quite fast, mainly because they start out with more HP... and we may start getting over our heads.

Ok... there is V-Tech and Vtec... here are two examples:

V-Tech vs. Vtec

Conclusion: VTECH is a phone, and I would not suggest buying an engine by VTECH.

Have any of you actually raced a Vtec? They're just noisemakers. I'll use the B16A as an example; from average stock dynos it produces ~160hp/128lb @ 7500rpm. This problem is usually exacerbated by the fact that most Vtec users prefer turbos over supers. Why in God's name you would want even more lag for your power curve is beyond me, but to each his own I suppose.

Now, a KLZE has ~200hp@5600rpm and 158lb@4700rpm. A properly tuned KLZE with forced induction should rip the snot out of those high-revving ricers right off the starting line with little to no real effort.

Of course, I don't like Hondas at all, so my opinions are highly biased and should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, however, I encourage you to actually watch a Vtec race against a well-tuned opponent and see just how well it fares.

so now we refer to engines as rice and are saying "..a vtec race..."

ok...every car company makes their own form vtec for their engines...itz just that vtec for hondas engines has become well known

as far as watching a civic with a vtec engine racing a well-tuned car...here's a link to a few http://cheesefrog.com/modules.php?na...download&cid=1

Re: V-tech

haha cheesfrog kicks ass.

Now I am a full-fledged MX3 fan. I love my car and cant wait to get my ZE running. But common dude, you gotta be fair.

You're saying your gonna race a 4 cylinder, with 40 less ponies and far less torque, versus a 6 cylinder with 40 more and quite a bit more torque throughout the powerband and call that fair? NO $&$^ the mx3 ZE wins, its got 40 more hp and when on F/I it also has more exhaust flow = more boost.

Honda Vtec is awesome. If you feel threatened by a 1.6L 4 banger while in your 2.5L 6 cylinder, then you owe the 4 banger some props.

Re: V-tech

I'm sorry, but I'm never scared of a 4 banger...I've raced quite a few civics, and I'm proud to say that none of them have pulled on me. Some have gotten close, but they don't have the high speed power that the mx3 does. Freeway and from stop light to stop light, I've never been beaten by a civic or accord.

Re: V-tech

hahaha yea... *whoosh*

Civics can be made REALLY fast, pretty easily dude. There are some civics roaming around with Supra numbers at the wheels... its just sick.

anyways firefly... If a civic has never beaten you.. and IIRC you have a 1.8L K8... then either A) you're lying, or B) Most people dont *try* when they race you... or C) only 1989 Civic CX's race you

I used to have a K8 and I know that I used to get spanked by a few civics around here. I could beat the stock ones... it was close with a few but I would pull ahead. But a civic with a few mods will take the MX3 V6 most of the time or it will be close. IMHO stock MX3 V6's are slow... they're built too heavy.

you have to remember that I live in southern california, home of the fast and the furious movement...aka, ricer central. There are very few people around that actually have cars that will run faster than 17 sec. Most civics around here are pieces of junk.

Re: V-tech

well, all I know is that I have taken out several accords, one of which looked like it may have been modded, at least with intake and exhaust. It was kind of close, but it was clear that I won.
