Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Progress
Hey,
This is my latest project (along with my lieberman skyline) It is an in progress of The Viper competition coupe. Any major proportional issues that I need to fix? I know the lines are sketchy and there is smudging but that will be cleaned up in the shading process. Here it is: ![]() Please tell me what I need to fix while it is still in the drafting period. Thanks ![]() Mirza

Re: Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Progress
I see some slight perspective issues with the front. Check out that dam. Sometimes it helps to imagine the center line up through the front flowing onto the hood and running to the back of the car.
Excellent job on the scoop, those can be tricky, and I like the posture on the tire. I know the board is freehand crazy but an ellipse set will serve you well. Nice start, keep going I'm curious. -Lemorris

I drew that car once! Almost the exact same angle too! If I can dig it up I will post it.

before ![]() after ![]() i hope you can tell what a big difference it made to bring the bottom of the front bumper to the right a little. |

Re: Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Progress
Can you post the ref pic quarter_mile, then we can see how much the bumper has to be moved, as it looks too straight now.

Re: Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Progress
quarter mile, fix the passenger side mirror. it is on a different plane, is lower, than the driver's side.

Here is the ref. picture.
I used a higher res version of this though. ![]() Most of the bottom of the front bumper is black and hidden so I didn't know If it should be straight or not. Mirza

lens focal length mm 101
Quote:
i draw storyboards so i know all about lense mm. where you fall short of this in your rendering is that you have attempted to design the picture with a flat, medium, like 50-60mm lens. this flat field is typical of most car portrait artists unfamiliar with photographic processes on location. you are trying to mix ideas here --either reinterpret the photo with flat field, which you have done and you may not even have known you were doing it, or go all the way and mimic the wide-angle/heroic distorted view. you have not done the former. yet you are trying to "swear to god the mirror is lower on the passenger side." and it IS. but your entire drawing is reinterpreted for flat-field. i'm not just blowing smoke up your a$$. this is the truth. if you scrutinize the photo, you will see how the proportions and rear of the car distort and seem like forced perspective. maybe you cannot yet discern lensing f/x. it will become second-nature the more you see it. the car is shot wide angle, probably from about ten feet away. a flat-field effect is to shoot it medium or even telephoto, long lens, from several yards away. i can tell this picture is wide as well because the horizon, infinity, is crystal clear in focus. were it flat, the depth of field would drop off like a cliff shortly after the car's body, and the b/g would be soft-focus. cheers, mate. |

Hi Mirza
Well here are the links for ellipses. http://www.sibleyfineart.com/index.h...w-ellipses.htm http://www.drawthrough.com/tutorials/index.html Sorry that the image is dark and b/w. I don't know why it did that. I think the image serves its purpose. ![]() You need help friend, on learning how to compare lines and angles. For instance: Notice the degree of the most bottom line of that front spoiler. Now notice the angle/degree of the most bottom line of the side spoiler (b/t the two tires). If you took a ruler and drew straight lines and alow them to intersect you would see the angle degrees are different. The ref. image has a smaller A angle while yours is larger. The ref. image has a larger B angel while yours is smaller. Compare the As and Bs between your drawing and the ref. If you have protractor you will see them better. I know w/ cars and esp. drawing faces the slightest thing off throws everything off. This may have been what Bonz was talking about, not sure though. He has too much knowledge for me. ![]() Mirza I know it is hard to try to explain things online, but I would recommend getting your hands on some books that explain drawing, I don't meen books on drawing cars either. ![]() Let me know if you want me to recommend any. Bonz you know any? Oh, where did you find that image? Thx Check my "Object of reference: Drawing w/o grids" thread Al Last edited by asaenz; 05-31-2004 at 10:12 AM. |
