on a 2.0 about 96...

cause if you car dont have one it won't run.

But seriously, it depends on the shaft. I cant see more that 15-20 hp increase. You must insure that your exhaust output is still street legal. Check out neuspeed I think they advertise camshafts and they tell you what the HP rating is.

Re: camshaft hp

It seriously depends on the car and camshaft design. If you get a really aggessive racing cam then you will get pretty noticeable gains, but you also will have the roughest idle you have ever experienced. It all depends on the design.

Re: camshaft hp

I don't mean to be a d!ck or anything. But why bother investing the money into new cams on a 2.0 8v 4 banger? I am not saying it is impossible, it just seems a bit impractical to me. Cams are not a simple bolt-on mod. If you are serious about fully modding out your jetta into a racer, then go for it, but it just isn't the most common/practical route of modification in my mind. Maybe if you had a v8 or something with a bigger engine. But if you are just looking for a bit more power, why not try a turbo or bolt-ons?

i agree w/ what Igovert said. you wont get a lot of naturally aspirated power out of a 2.slow. try putting on the neuspeed or bahnbrenner charger instead. btw, if you took the time to look at neuspeeds website, you would have seen this :

Add up to 10 horsepower and feel it all the way through the powerband with a NEUSPEED sport camshaft. Germany's leading camshaft maker supplies our chill cast billets which we machine to our custom specifications. Translation: it's designed specifically for your car and your level of engine modifications. Beware of inexpensive "re-grind"cams that experience premature lobe failure. Install the best -- NEUSPEED!

Notes
.429 lift / 256 duration. Recommended for all 1996-later 2.0L 8V engines. This is the most aggressive lift and duration you can run on an OBD II engine without triggering an engine check light.
