Re: blow-through mod

my only question is, when i upgrade to a fmic that has 2.5in inlets, will i have fitting issues with this 2.25in blowthrough pipe?

i'm not an expert on this type of mod, but how do you fit a 3" maf on a 2.25" pipe?

Re: blow-through mod

the 2.25in is the taper to the inlet on the stock side mount intercooler.

Re: blow-through mod

Yes, that's all you will need. I sort of question the benefits of a MAFt this early, but you seem headed on the right track, especially with that tial BOV instead of the ricer ones.

I'll be waiting until I get a FMIC to do this, but I guess if you use a FMIC piping that is 'long route' as in goes through stock SMIC location to your UICP, it will still work. If you are planning on getting 2.5 inch FMIC piping, you might consider 2.5 inch UICP right now, so it's consistent later.

You can get silicone (and probably rubber) reducers from 2.5 to 2.25 so I wouldn't worry about that, but still consider getting 2.5 inch now if Dejon sells it. (havent checked)

Re: blow-through mod

they do. same price. i'll get that 2.5 blow through pipe insted and find a reducer to match with the smaller inlet on my smic. good idea, no bottleneck in flow when i upgrade to fmic

Re: blow-through mod

Not really, on a small turbo like stock it may affect performance, because it's such a small turbo and a long way to go. You might see some pressure drop, but you would see that even with short route piping. When you have an upgraded turbo I doubt there's much of a difference at all.

EDIT>> And you'll be so happy when you get a FMIC that it won't even be an issue.

Re: blow-through mod

The only way I WON'T get one, is if I stumble upon some money/great deals and I just go ahead with DSMlink.

Re: blow-through mod

ok, could i fit an MAFt in between my TB elbow and the GReddy UICP's? i know i would have to cut something in there, most likely the TB elbow. would this be too close to the TB or does the proximity matter?

also how do you tune it? like a laptop or Palm???

Re: blow-through mod

I'm not aware of any effects of having the MAF closer to the TB, but it seems like everyone keeps theirs halfway between the BOV and TB elbow, in the straight section. You will probably want to cut a section out of the UICP, put in the MAF and 2 reducers.

You tune with knobs on the MAFt, and watch results on a datalogger which is seperate... whether it's pocketlogger on a palm or DSMlink on a laptop.

This is the pipe I just made for a 3.5" MAF. Nice gradual transitions. Couplers are THICK, from www.sporthoses.com. Tial BOV will go right before the coupler to the MAF, or in the LICP. Most likely LICP just to keep things clean. Not sure what the effects of having the BOV before FMIC will be, but there is only one way to find out. I aint scared!

You cna also see what the term "short route piping" really means. This is all that lies between the FMIC outlet and the NT TB (thats what the 3" elbow connects to, the NT TB. No hard TB elbow. saweet)

Maybe this will give you some ideas at least for when you get your FMIC. I would sell the dejon pipe (should be easy, everyone is doing the MAFt thing), and just use couplers for the MAF on the UCIP they give you in the kit. Really straight forward.
