In the late 80's one my best friend's dad had a Saab 900 Turbo . . . black with beige (kinda orangy in color) leather . . .

That was the first time I had ever heard of a "Turbo" . . . or at least the first time I ever paid attention. I really had no choice . . . I remember as John's dad sharply accelerated . . . I had this feeling of confusion that swept over me which around that age automatically turned into a nagging curiosity, as did most feelings. WHIZSZSZSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHH . . . "What's that noise?" I remember looking over at John and then studying his fathers face when I looke forward into the rear view mirror. I saw I look I couldn't come close to understanding until recently . . . it was the look of satisfaction, a rather smug grin . . . a hairs breadth from cockiness as his son smirked and replied . . . "That's the turbo, that means were going real fast . . . "

I will never forget that sound . . .

I too remember my first turbo experience. It was a 1999 Saab 900 Turbo. I remember a pre-mature shift into second, and a complete lack of power, and as the rpms slowly rose, I recall that instant push as the turbo spooled up.

Now I have a roots supercharger in may car, for numerous reasons, but it can never match the feeling of a turbo spooling. Nothing quite like it. I echo your jubiliation in the experience

I know what you guys are talking about, I can still remember my first turbo experience.

It was in my dads first 9000 2.0 turbo, an 88 model. That sensation of a spooling turbo has stayed with me. Ever since then my old man has owned turbos.

While I, (a poor student) drive a 4th gen civic, dad is still driving a turbo. A 97 model 9000 Aero running about 17 psi of boost infact. All I have to say is WHIZSZSZSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHH . . .

I'll never forget the site of driving home from work and seeing a 1980's Saab 900 Turbo on fire - It was an electrical fault :o
