Re: quad 4
Belive it or not, the iron duke is very popular in 4 cylinder class racing. It's been said a stock automotive 2.5L Iron Duke can run 180HP with minor modifications but because it was designed as an economical, low performance engine it is kind of limited. The S10 truck block is slightly stonger but would still need better insides to put out much more. The marine version (much coveted among racers) of the iron duke as well as the super duty 4 racing version (not very cost effective, the price tag on the bare block alone pushes $2K) can be built to put out upwards of 200HP.
If you need much more then that, I would also suggest moving up to the 60 degree V6 family (2.8/3.1/3.4OHV) as they will bolt right in to a 2M4 with little modification - basically swap the heavier struts in, change the ECM and harness and you're done. I would advise against a Quad 4 - the tiny, poorly designed water pump(from a performance view) will never handle the burden of a Fiero's unique front to rear cooling system. Check out Http://www.60degreev6.com for the 2.8L specs you wanted. This site has some interesting info on the Iron Duke : http://www.k12.nf.ca/gc/Staff/Teache...ro/dukefaq.htm You can find lots more with just a simple google search.

Rusty unibodies need not apply. 74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!! 3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L) Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????

Re: quad 4
the super duty 4 is the best. the real indy pace car had one and i think they were pushing 270hp. the production sd-4's had 180 i think

Re: quad 4
Well You could throw a 2.3 Quad 4 High output in it, that makes stock 180 hp with miner mods be up to 200
