Cool LS to an LS/V-Tec

I have a 96 LS and i have been looking around for a V-Tec head. I guess im wondering if that is the best way to go about getting more beef under the hood. I also want to know where the best place is to get a new head from, and how much it will cost, and do i need to up grade any more of my engine when putting on a new head.

Check Ebay for heads, the best for the money is the pr3 from the b16. Also, check junkyards. You'll need to get an obd-2 vtec distributor. You'll also need an obd-2 vtec ecu, such as a p28 (chipped), or a p72 from the gsr. I've heard that you should also get pistons from a vtec engine because the non-vtec b-series pistons don't have big enough valve reliefs. Companies make vtec conversion kits with the oil lines and dual sized dowel pins now, so that's easier. Try Golden Eagle for their kit. It'll run you anywhere from $400-1000 for the head alone depending on what you get and how good its condition is. The Golden Eagle kit is around $250. An ecu might run you around $200, and the distributor, I'm not quite sure about because I've seen new ones for like $250, but I'm sure you can get one for way cheaper. LS/VTEC's not as cheap as some people think it is to do right. You won't see as much of a horsepower per dollar gain as you will for turbo. Turbo may be more expensive, but you'll see way better gains.

If everybody stopped asking questions like this, we wouldn't have anything to talk about anymore though.
