Me VS 'Them'

It's not much, but it's still something!

So it's around 8:45PM and i'm just driving around killing some time as i wait for my buddy to get off work (late dinner with an old friend) and i stop at a red light in the left lane on a quiet residential 2 lane.

A little red Kia Rio pulls up next to me, reving a little. I'm thinking nothing of it...just singing along to the radio. The light turns green and i start going and this little Kia takes off like he was shot from a gun!!

So needless to say i watched this thing go like hell to the speed limit of 50 and then kinda hang around 60. i catch up at the next light and look over as i pull up. This younger couple (mid-late 20s) are looking in my direction and as we make eye contact they start laughing.

Now i know i'm an ugly guy but i ain't THAT ugly!

So i put down the power window and go to say something and the light turns green and the guy takes off...again! This time i follow a little closer, watching for the hint of manual or automatic tranny. It turned out to automatic.

So again, next stop light, this time my window is down when i stop and i motion to the guy to roll down his own window. The guy and his girl start laughing again and he puts down his window.

ME: What's so funny? Is there bird crap all over my car or what?

HIM: No, your car is just a real pussy.

HER: Yeah, you couldn't keep up to us even the 2nd time around!

ME: Well, the third time is the charm isn't it? Instead of light to light,
why don't i follow you around the next right hand turn and we can
try again?

HIM: (laughs) It's your funeral, kid!

So yes, you can all see where this is going.

So i follow the guy around the next corner, again a quiet residential street but it's a good un-interrupted stretch.

So anyways, we turn the corner and stop side by side at the first stop sign we come too. Before i can even motion the '3-2-1' this jackass takes off! So i hit it and we're off.

Now unfortunately my car hasn't any low end power...it's not 'til gear 2 kicks in that i get my true power happening.

So he takes me off the line (obviously, he cheated, but i'm making my way!) and he's got about a car and a half on me. This stays consistent until my 2nd gear kicked in.

That car and a half advantage for him narrowed rather swiftly, and we got side to side. As my speedometer neared 85km/h and 3rd gear was about it take over we began to enter a corner, in his favour.

So i'm thinking 'dammit..he's got the inside la...' and before i can even finish my thought, my good ol' trusty top gear kicked in. Despite him having the inside through this long corner, i powered ahead. His front bumper was back by my rear door, and stayed there all the way to 150km/h when i let up (road is narrow, got a little too intense for me!).

I put the brakes on, slowed down. He kept on going for a minute, i was starting to think 'what a dink...he loses when i'm finally trying and doesn't stick around for it' when he turns around and comes back.

We pull up next to each other and the conversation went:

HIM: Wholly hell! You weren't trying before were you?

ME: Nope. *chuckle*

HER: Sorry we laughed at you, that old crate is pretty fast!

ME: No worries! A crate she is, but the boat's never let me down.
Just make sure ya'll are actually BOTH racing next time around!

HIM: I guess i should so i don't get my ass handed to me again!

ME: (Thinking too late for that, you bought a Kia!!) I guess..good run!

HIM: You too! Want a smoke?

I accepted.

Re: Re: Me VS 'Them'

Nicely done but what the hell kind of residential area lets you go 150km/h? I usually do those speeds on the highway fro work to home....Youd be surprised how many people have a problem with a van going those speeds.

Consider what my car is...a Kia Rio is a great race if at a dead stop. I'll faster cars when i'm already moving, but i have no low-end power to race somthing faster then that off the line.

They're not really residential now that i think about it...there's houses and that, but they're more like double lane through downtown kinda road but without the traffic. This particular road rings around a park.

Meh I still wouldn't take the risk of going that fast in a residential area...the though of a child popping outta nowhere freaks tha hell outta me. That's why we made our own strip

Are you mocking me??

I'm pretty sure it was stock. Consider the size, weight, and age of my car and that it's all stock original parts from the showroom i think i did pretty well for off the line.

Start from a roll or on the highway and that's where i shine. I've out-run Sunfire GT's with intake and exhaust (my neighbor), Cavalier Z24's (countless), tonnes of Civics and Focus, a 5.0L Mustang too... just a few of my kills.

It's not that kind of residential either...hard to explain unless you actually see it. But yea, i hear ya. Kid pops out and i don't want to think about it.

I think I know what your talking about but I save speeds like that for the strip. Usually I don't take in city street races past 20 km over speed limit. I figure that if a cop pulls me over, it wouldn't be that big of a ticket
