Unhappy Help with my 84 Corvette

Hello, I have a 84 Corvette, and I have a problem right now. It all started like about a month ago. I tried to start the car, and it just didnt. Somebody told me to replace the fuel filter. I did, disconecting the negative battery cable first, according to the service manual, and replaced the fuel filter, and after reconecting the cable, I tried to start the car, and it did, I took it for a test drive, and it was running kinda rough, I couldnt step on the gas too hard becasue it was almost stalling. I went back home, parked the car, and then, I tried to start it again couple hours after, and same thing, It wouldnt start. So, I bought a new fuel pump and strainer, and received them after like about a week. I disconected the negative battery cable again and installed the new fuel pump and strainer. And then, I reconected the cable, tried to start the car, and it did again, I was happy,..., but not for very long. It ran, better than the last time, but still, I drove it for like an hour. Came back home, tried to start it again at the next day, and,..., well, you know, it wouldnt start. And since I already have a new fuel pump, strainer, and filter, I believe it would be the fuel pump relay. I checked the fuse and its ok. Could it be something else? Im not having any error codes from the computer.
But now the thing is, that I dont know where the fuel pump relay is, I have been looking on the Chilton Service Manual that I have, but it doesnt say anything about the location of it (kinda dumb, huh?), I dont know how to test it either, but it cost like around 15 bucks, so might as well get a new one. Im gonna have to special order it though, nobody has it in stock.
Ohh well, thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate your help and support.

PS: Don't forget to wave.

Re: Help with my 84 Corvette

Alright, I was trying to replace the fuel pump relay, and I found the conector all melted, I had to use a flathead screwdriver to take it out. I scraped the burnt plastic off the terminals and put the new relay in, but that didnt work, I guess, the car didnt start. But the conector still looks real bad. Where can I get a new conector? And why did that happened? Do I have a short somewhere? I also noticed that the wire for the O2 sensor was laying on top the exhaust pipe and kinda melted. I dont know what to do, really, my car has been sitting there for about a month now. I think Im gonna get a Honda instead, or something more reliable if I cannot fix it. Thanks a lot anyway everybody

Re: Help with my 84 Corvette

if you think your vette is frustrating, hondas are much worse. i have had an 84, 85, two 86s, two 87s, 91, 94, and a 96 vettes over the past two years. it only gets easier to work on them as you learn. i have since then collected alot of spare parts, including an 84 project car that i dont have time for. if intrested, i would part with it cheap and/or dig around for any parts you might need to keep you from honda!!!

another thing you might check is the oil pressure sending unit. if disconnected or faulty it will not let the computer run the fuel pump.

I have both a vette and a honda and the honda is much easier to work on and will outrun, out handle and get way better gas mileage..So I have to dis-agree.
pics to both. As for the problem on the 84 vette.... Does that car have a burn off module?......Located under the pass side dash. My 85 did the same thing and it proved to be the burn off module... Its a silver box on mine a little larger than a can of sardines.

Wish you luck.

Im gonna take my vette to the mechanic, I dont really have time to be mesing around with it, I have 2 jobs, I start working at 7am, and I dont come back home 'till 9pm, you know what I mean? LOL. My car has been sitting out there for over a month already. I'll let you guys know what the problem was. I'll send some pics later. Thanks for everything.

Re: Help with my 84 Corvette

Alright, I finally had my Vette fixed. The guy replaced the ignition module, pick-up coil and ignition coil. I also replaced the distributor cap and wires and plugs, and man, that is just what I needed. My vette feels just like new right now. Thanks a lot everybody for your help and support.
