since my exhaust flew the coupe my check engine light
has been on, and the car runs like crap. is the light
being on and it running sluggish a result of the muffler
falling off?

Re: check engine light

Which car is it?? Muffler doesnt have anything to do with your check engine light, and shouldnt turn it on.. Shouldnt affect the way it runs either?

Re: check engine light

hmm.. why did the muffler fall off anyway? lol

are you sure when it fell it didnt crush some of the pipe? or damage something else along the exhaust system?

I dont know too much about the exhaust in the 4th gens.. Never looked at one, But missing a muffler shouldnt cause the engine to run rough... It should just Sound rough!

Re: check engine light

it is loud, it just seems like it has lost some
of its kick, ill have it checked out tomarrow.
im beginning to think i have been burnt big time
i paid 5800 for this car and the exhaust dropped
off when i hit a "unavoidable" pot hole in the road.
it was already loose anyway.

Re: check engine light

well if you just bought the car, who knows what kinda exhaust work was make shifted onto the car...You also coulda knocked somethin else off of somewhere when you hit the "unavoidable" pothole? But if you havent checked already, Make sure that your muffler comin down didnt pinch the remaining pipe closed

Re: check engine light

insignificant back pressure can cause the reulsts of sluggish respone , pick up , etc. Mine did it too when my cats got ripped off.

Re: check engine light

I figured if just the muffler fell, the cats should leave enough backpressure in system.. Especially if they are factory cats

new muffler

well i did have to replace the pipe going back to the
muffler andi put a xclerator muffler on it.
it says on the box that its 2 times louder than
a straight out. so i got a dual outlet one
and put 2 new z28 tips back on it it sounds
really good and it was only $80 and $45
for the extra pipes and labor. looks
and sounds good. but my check
engine light was due to a bad
oxygen sensor....car runs like a
bat outa hell now.

Re: check engine light

Haha crappeh ..My service engine soon light just came on tonight....I suppose it'll do that once in a while with low oil pressure and flying down the freeway at 100 + mph eh. I should replace the o2 sensor on mine , that just may be my problem as well..It only comes on like 25-30 minutes after driving..I dunno

Pull the codes from your ECM.. that'l tell you whats wrong.. Its going to be either EGR system fault or Oxygen sensor though...
