New electrical problem...

Ok..so today after I install some new valve covers , msd wires , battery , msd blaster coil , new distributor cap and rotor..I go to hook my positive cable back up and my lights start bugging out. acting as if the hazards are on..so I try to start it and see if that stops it..maybe a ECU security thing ? Nope , no go. I suspect I left the battery disconnected for about 5 minutes while hooking the wires up.

My car has a security system in it but that hasn't worked for like 5 years ( says the gentlemen I bought it from. )

I can't drive it with my lights flashing and door buzzer going off when the lights flash. What do I do ? is there a easy way around this ?

Re: New electrical problem...

its the aftermarket wiring system, im 90% sure. welcome to the world of aftermarket fuck ups unfortunately there is no way i can offer to help on this one online, someone with automotive electronics repair experience and knowledge of this wiring system will have to go in and figure out what got fucked up. i guess somehow by moving stuff around and rewiring a few things, you reactivated the aftermarket equipment, and thats whats causing the problem. i cant think of any stock system that would do that, or any wiring problem that would do what you describe.

Re: New electrical problem...

I would find the computer to the alarm, unhook it, and unhook everything its connected to, pull out the entire alarm harness... Make sure you cover up any exposed factory wiring.. (I use solder and heatshrink or liquid electrical tape)

Re: New electrical problem...

I took my dash pad off ( under ) and just removed the Hornet controll box for the alarm and everything was good to go. No problems yet.

Re: New electrical problem...

Glad to hear that worked .. You should still trace all the wires from the hornet harness and remove them! IMO

Re: New electrical problem...

glad to hear it was an easy fix thus far. but i agree, if your gonna take it out, might as well take out the wiring, for cleanliness, appearance, safty, and the future headaches it might produce.

Re: New electrical problem...

Aye..Tis a long process though and thus far , As I have moved , I have no garage for this and if I do it in the parking lot of the apartments we live in , they will through a tissy fit if they see me working on my car in the lot and have it towed ( yeah right..I'd bust some caps in their crowns first. ) BUt I am also moving in two months so when I get into our new house and a garage , I will definently remove all the crap wiring in that car. Man..There is like a 100 wires O.o hella wires..I think it's an OLD old car alarm system.. But yeah , I figured if I am not using the alarm , Might as well pull all the junk wires off my main harnesses and re-hardwire the lines back together , Less electrical problems in the future I suspect.

Much appreciated on your guys help and opinions
Great forum by the way =D
