Pistons...

Does anyone know what kinds of gains I could expect from a set of CTR pistons in my basically stock (i/h) B16A?

i wouldnt expect more then 5whp, you might get more with other parts because all the other parts compliment each other like bigger cams and more hiflow intake mani.

Re: Pistons...

i thought ctr pistons raised the c/r pretty drastically. should result in a little more than 5, but i could be entirely wrong.

i mean the type r motor only has about 25 more whp then a b16, so you figure with the cams, intake mani, port polish, pistons, exhaust all of which are better then a regular b16, how much would you expect from an upgrade like that ?

plus liek i said, all of the parts compliment each other, like with jsut the pistons you might get only 5whp, but say if you had cams and the intake mani already on then add the pistons, you might see 8whp. all the parts compliment each other, get waht im saying ?

Re: Pistons...

Yeah I was kinda hoping the compression would help me get a bit more than 5 horses. Sensei the B16B is the CTR motor (Ricochet has one) I have the B16A which is the JdM Civic SiR-2 motor... Ricochets motor is basically mine on steroids...

i was reading a post somewhere and it said taht putting in CTR pistons in a b16 will only yield a 10.8 from a stock 10.2. if thats right, then that aint much.

if thats true it might be better to just buy aftermarket pistons with higher comrpession ratios

Re: Pistons...

yea actually getting aftermarket pistons might be the way to go that way u can seriously bump it up to like 12:1 or something. Since u are ripping apart the engine anyway... might as well put something worth the hassle that will give u solid gains.

Re: Pistons...

But they cost so much (aftermarket)...I was eyeing those ctr pistons on inlinefour for $200 and thought it was like a major deal but I guess not...

Re: Pistons...

you only have a b16a, there is no motor with a b16a sirII, the sirII is the model trim of the civic it was ripped out of.

Re: Pistons...

B1Sir6A.....how do you run a 12 second 1/4 with only i/h on a b16a?

Im not doubting you at all it just seems a little fast for only having intake and headers...do you have anything else done to the car??

Re: Pistons...

Crxlvr I actually have a JDM SiR-2 (my motor came stock in the car) I was only telling him that thats the kind of car that the engine came out of...

Jszy nah thas crazy...I wish i was running 12's in the 1/4...Down here (Nassau, Bahamas) our only track is only 1000ft long which means that we're missing out on another 320ft to make a quarter mile so add on about 2 - 2.5 seconds to make up the extra 320 ft and i'll probably be doing high to mid 14's in the 1/4 mile...

Oh yeah my bad I have intake and exhaust not headers I typed the "h" by mistake I guess...

i wouldn't get the ctr pistons. the increase in compression ratio isn't enough to justify getting them.

if you plan on going hard core all motor, Look into getting some 11.5:1 or higher c/r pistons
