engine change
Considering that the gti-r engine is the same configuration (north-south or east-west) it can fit into that engine bay. also if its rear wheel drive then ur gonna have to consider gettin a gti-r drive train. The SR20's are around $1500-$2500 for just the engine or u could pick up a front cut for a bit more.

there are a couple kicking around Auckland NZ, one has a GTiR SR20 the other has a Bluebird SR20, so it can be done and i think reasonably cheaply. if you dont push it too much you can probably get away with the standard box and radiator but it would be best to upgrade these and the brakes and suspension. from what i hear these cars are very fast, the main problems being wheelspin and torque steer.
do it! |

Hello,
Pretty much bolts straight in... but the flywheel and clutch assembly on the GTIR is a larger diameter than the GTI, and the GTI's clutch isn't strong enough, so I had to have a custom combo made. everything else just bolts up, couple of changes to the loom mainly to do with the injectors (need ballast resistor if using GTIR engine) and a few plugs need changing/relocating. Squid. Auckland, NZ GTI with GTIR engine ![]() PS, torque steer not so bad, but suggest you get a GTI with at least a viscous LSD. |
