not taking much coolant after flush.
Hey everyone..I looked at some other threads regarding changing my coolant in my 98. I drained the old stuff, changed the T-stat, then flushed with the jet from my hose by putting it in the resevoir and letting it run through a few minutes. I let that drain for a half hour or so then put the plug in. When I filled it back up w/ a 50/50 mix of dex-cool/distilled H2O it only took like 1 1/3 gallons or so. I'm worried there's a bunch of water in the system and then only about 5 quarts of 50/50 mix. That would mean that in a 13 qt system, theres a total of about 12 qts water and only 3 qts dex-cool. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
p.s. I also changed plugs, fuel filter, pcv, ..wanted to do wired but couldnt find any delco's anywhere here. |

Re: not taking much coolant after flush.
If you drained it from the radiator valve, it should be empty. Normally after refilling, you must bring the engine up to temperature to open the thermostat and get all the air out of the system. Turn the heater on, too, so that coolant gets into it. After it cools, you'll probably find it takes another 2+ gallons

the heater should be on when you flush otherwise that part of the system isnt being worked..i am pretty sure there would be a couple of quarts to account for here... news

If you had the frt end up on ramps, its possible you didn't get all the anti-freeze out of the engine & heater circuit.
If you don't have an anti-freeze tester, take the car to Sears or somewhere else & have the coolant checked to be sure you have an adequate mixture. |
