Need help with a vin

Hi all! I have recently acquired a Mercedes 280C and need a little help reading the vin. It ia 12305012001284. Wondering if anyone can tell me how to read location of manufacturing, color, and anything else I can get out of it. Also, if anyone knows why the 280C is not listed in any auto parts store in US that would be helpful as well!! Thanks a bunch!

If you have the vin entered in right, you have a gas powered 123 coupe with an automatic trans. If you have the year right, this makes it a gray market car probably with a 2.3 4 cylinder or a 3 liter straight 6. Since this is a gray market car, you won't find all the info on your car accurate, nor will you find many sources of info in the country on it. I ran your number thru our dealer network and it came up empty, which led me to the gray market conclusion.

Also, the equivalent american spec car would have been referred to as a 280CE, E being einspritzer, german for fuel injected. If your car is a carburetted car, so sorry. If it is carbed, call any of the older California euro customizing shops and adk if they still have the carb and intake switchover kits around for the older mercedes. These switched it to dual solex or weber carbs and reaslly made these cars scream. As for the color, etc, there should be a build plate on the radiator support or a fenderwell with a bunch of numeric codes. The exterior paint codes is 3 digits with a letter behind it. G stands for Glasurit paint, H stands for Hebert , these were the two most common paint suppliers to the factory back in the day. The interior color code is also 3 digits. If you have a cloth (velour) interior, the 1st digit would be a 4, leather would be a 2, vinyl (mb tex) would be a 1. iF YOU NEED THE ENGINE NUMBER, IT'S ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE BLOCK TOWARD THE FIREWALL WHERE THE BLOCK MEETS THE CYLINDER HEAD. HAS THIS BEEN ANY HELP?
