Question 95 runner clutch probs??

this is the original clutch.. it has 125000 miles on it. i thought that is has been going out because when starting in first gear it has not been as smooth as it used to be, but shifting into second and third did not seen to be too bad. but today i noticed something different that i cant explain. it only does this in 4th gear from what i can tell. When driving in 4th gear with the clutch totally out, if i press the gas hard the engine accellerates but does accelerate the car as much as it should, the revs go up but the car doesnt go faster praportionally with the revs. then if i quickly let off the gas, the revs seem to slow down back to the speed traveling.... please anyone who know i need advise. thanks. walt

Re: 95 runner clutch probs??

Clutch is slipping. Sound's like it's time for a new clutch. The lining has worn down to where it doesn't lock up any more. It is going to stop working totally real soon. Get it fixed or you will be stranded.

yep try a super clutch or a centerforce if you go offroading they last forever or longer maybe...mine feels brand new(centerforce 1) w/ 80,000 hard miles on it.

Re: 95 runner clutch probs??

I am new here. Can you explain "super Clutch" and "centerforce". These, I assume are brand names. Do regular parts stores (Auto zone and their ilk) carry them or would I need to go to a specialty parts store? I have 1997 4Runner and I tend to be rough on it. I tow trailers and go offroading (non-level surfaces). My first clutch from the new car lasted about 120. This was is at 110 and it starting to slip.

Are these clutches warranteed for a longer period of time than the stock Toyota Clutch (1 yr if they put it in)?

How is the action on them - are they much harder to push? My wife drives a lot.

Re: 95 runner clutch probs??

You should probably call the manufacturer and talk to them to get the specifications for these clutches. or possibly search the web for comments by owners.
