95 1.9 to 97 2.0 question

I have a 95 LX 1.9 and wanting to drop the 97 escort engine in it. but right now i have an automatic.. i am wanting to put a 5 speed in it also. Can i just buy a 97 engine with 97 manual transmition with it and put it in or do I need to buy the 95 tranny and hook it up to the 97 engine. So can i drop the 97 tranny in with the engine? or do i need to use the 95 tranny.

If you had a complete 97 donar car it should work, but the second and third gen tranny's/axcels are not the same. But no one has used a 3rd gen tranny in a second gen that I know of.
