Help with OTC Readings

I have hooked up an OTC 4000 to my 93 Pontiac Grand Am and have gotten some peculiar messages.

I wanted to test the ECM due to a problem with the Ignition. There seems to be no fire to the plugs and I decided to get any trouble codes from the computer.

When I hooked up the OTC scanner, I only got postitive data back. No Error codes, ECM tested ok and everything else seemed fine except that the engine would not start.

I did finally get a response of TPS Out of range. Now I am totally confused on why a faulty TPS would cause the engine not to fire.

Can anyone help shed some light at the end of this tunnel, or maybe provide a fresh perspective.

thanks.
