Gen 1 exhaust on Gen 2?

I'm looking for aftermarket exhaust for my 1991 MR2 turbo, but I don't want to stray away from the dual exhaust that comes stock with the car. I found a nice dual exhaust, but it's for a gen 1 mr2. For gen2 the cheapest I could find, in any decent condition, is around $700, and it's almost $500 less for the exhaust designed for a gen1 mr2. Is there any chance the gen1 exhaust could be changed to fit on the gen2 for any reasonable price? Or would I be better off saving up my money and spending an extra 500 for the gen 2 designed exhaust? Has anyone tried this, or are the set-ups and body sizes and such between the two far too different to make this affordably possible?

Re: Gen 1 exhaust on Gen 2?

turbo = downpipe
n/a = headers

with the second gen car you'll want to use a larger diameter pipe as well. are you talking a full exhaust? or cat-back?

and the hangers will probably be different too... just look on ebay or something

Well, can't find a good one on ebay, and the tko ko one is the cheapest decent one I can find. I also contemplated buying a 3" in/out high flow cat and two exhaust canisters and paying this metal working shop down the street to do the 3" piping for me to create my own sort of custom exhaust. This will run me about $200 less than the tko racing dual exhaust, and will have alot more character to it. I found some nice Megan N1 exhaust canistgers for a reasonable price and am searching for a good high flow cat. Has anyone ever done this before? I read about it on a friend website in which he did much the same application to his turbo talon. Would you advise against this? And does anyone know if the sound on this would be more full and throaty, or probably worse, then a pre-made exhaust system? Oh, and expect the metal work to be done perfectly. This place did the exhaust work for my friends exhaust and has also done ALOT of furniture work for my parents.
