What V-8 engine works best to swap into my Volvo 240 DL?

I suggest you post at www.swedespeed.com, www.brickboard.com, or www.vvspy.com where you will find knowledgeable owners a few of whom have done this swap.

You might also check out Converse (sp.) Engineering who is known for their Volvo V8 swaps (they did both David Letterman's and Paul Newman's.)

Either the Ford or Chev small block work equally well. The Ford 5.0L engine has the advantage of being slighly smaller and lighter, and with the distributor located at the front allows the engine to be positioned back further for better weight distribution. There are also a ton of performance parts available.

The Chev engine although slightly larger and heavyer is capable of producing more power. The larger size can make for a tighter installation and a little more work but again a ton of aftermarket goodies are available to increase power and appearance. Really both engines will result in a very satisfying conversion

We will be attempting to do a LT1 swap into a 240 this summer. My friends brother is wanting to do the swap, so we are going to attempt it when he gets deployed this summer. This should be fun.
