2001 I30 Maintenance

I have a leased 2001 Infinity I30 with 36K miles. I love the car and have decided to purchase it rather than turn it in.

To date, I have changed the oil a few times and had the 25K facorty service at a cost of about $250.

My questions is what is the best way to maintain the vehicle for the long haul? Should I follow the manufacturers maintenence schedule (very expensive) or is there a better and less expensive way to maintain the car?
