What the hell is up with the "Zoom, Zoom" advertising campaign?
As if to say that Mazda has been known for producing lethal powerplants. That's ballsy advertising if you ask me . . . let alone the fact that they copied Nissan's commercial with the silver cars driving around the salt flats or whatever the hell that dusty flat land area is . . . If not for the rotary, where would Mazda be right now? |

Hea, you remember the commercial, don't you? Tehn it was a success, people now remember Mazda. And it is more to help show the harmony between chassis and engine, which most of them do well (ex, the Miata)

There is no harmony between chassis and engine if you ask me.
Granted, they do a wonderful job putting together a capable suspension package, and that, combined with the weight distribution is the premier selling point of the Miata. Power is it's achilles heel, as there is almost none. Even their new Protege' is showing to be a superb handler, yet power delivery could be described as anemic at best! Which brings me back to my original question: Quote:

True, they are rather anemic. You can always tune them though! Yes, I'm skipping the point. But they will have a rotary-powered car soon, so thats good. I think their engineers should put a bit more effort into power. But hte new protege is fairly powerful for its class, and no one knows about the 626 (do they still make it?? I love cars, but I don't really know!), the MPV is weak aswell. So I guess they just stick to the handling. I guess they feel its better to be able to get out of trouble, and not get into any in the first place. I guess its appropriate, considering the proximity of mothers day.

i kinda agree with ya that the cars they're making now aren't all that fast so i don't know whats up with the zoom zoom campaign...but mazda's whole thing is innovation. almost every car they've come out with has some new ingenious technology (millenia's miller-cycle engine/626 with fold down back seats/rx7's wankel rotary). anyway if you didn't know mazda is trying to get back into perforamnce. they sponsored the hot import nights car show tour this year and they're coming out witht the rx8 in 2003 which is gonna be the shiznit. by the way mazda still does make the 626, in 2003 they're making a new generation which looks awesome and its gonna be called the 6 here and the atenza in japan.

I personally hate Mazda for making that commercial for all the reasons stated above.

i'm not sure about the 626... my mom's has some power... it's still full stock(it's a 2000) it could use more, but hey, as long as it's fine with doin 100 on the interstate, i'm fine

I agree ugly . . . (Welcome to AF by the way),
If you get it up to triple digits, don't complain too much . . . depends on how you look at it though. I like to see cars advertised for what they are, and marketed the same way. Don't you think it be a bit odd if not laughable to see a Civic add with a cherry SI towing a Mercruiser? It doesn't fit with the way the car was made or what it's really capable of. I feel the sam way about Mazda's advertising. Not to mention they stole an advertising idea from Nissan . . . |

If a 300ZX twin-turbo isn't "zoom-zoom", then what is!

Hey Ugly Racer,
Just so you know, when I speak about stolen ad compaigns, I don't mean the "Zoom" x3 crap . . . I mean the television commercials where Mazda shows a few Miatas or some other crap Mazda car being tossed around in the desert. That's PREMIUM Nissan material. Since the introduction of the 2000 Maxima (I'm pretty sure), Nissan has been showing their cars streaking and powersliding through the desert. Then somehow, Mazda takes up the baton and tries the same schitt. Dimly lit area, silver cars . . . the whoe nine yards. |

I can't argue with that . . . I've never seen a Kia ad except for that crap with the super sized odometer on the roof of the car . . .
and I 've never seen a Hyundai ANYTHING powersliding . . . 'cept for their reputation . . . |
