Unhappy PLS PLS PLS Help my delsol...

hi there.. I live in Western Australia, and I just got a 1997 CRX which has a B16a2 engine (1.6L VTEC twin cam), I bought the car from sydney,(I live in Perth) so, i didn't actually have chance to test drive the crx.

when i first got it 5 days ago, I found that the gear box of my crx is totally fucked. I have to replace another gear box, the problem is that there's no CRX gear box avaliable in W.A. , i have been asking around and check from the net. but not much usefull informations i could found. some workshop suggest me to put in a EG gear box, and some suggest me to put in a EK. the more people i asked, the more i am confused as they all give me a difference answer.

Just wondering do you have any idea which one would be able to fit in? I am so so worry as the car still got the sydney number plate on, and i couldn't have the car transfered under my name or register a W.A. number plate as it has to pass the pit before i can do everything. Pls Pls Pls help...

Re: PLS PLS PLS Help my delsol...

as long as you have the correct shift linkage to mount up to it..both should work..but i have not installed both..so i cant tell you first hand... why are you having such a hard time finding a gear box ? and what exactly is wrong with yours ?

As long as it's a B-series transmission, it will bolt up the same as your transmission is now.
So you could use an EG 92+ transmission as long as it's a DOHC model engine (excluding the ZC engine... it's a D-series engine), or you could use a 96+ EK transmission, again as long as it's a B-series engine, or you could use any 94-2001 Integra transmission, because they're all B-series... although the gearing is a bit different between transmissions (RS, LS, GS transmissions are geared higher than most... I would suggest using the transmission out of a GSR or Type-R if you go with an integra transmission).

Unhappy thx

thx for ur reply first...
it is hard to say that... Western Australia is shitttt!!!!!!! you know what W.A stand for??? west awhile mannn!!!! there's nothing!!!
ooo..........
anyway, i have been looking for a crx gear box for agesss... I checked from the net everyday.... or maybe very hour... i drive around... i have done everything i can.. but W.A.... just doesn't have what i need... and actually i think there are not more than 15 delsol in W.A. coz i have only seen delsol on the street 5 times.... that's the reason why i can't get a delsol gearbox.
so, could you pls pls pls help me or ask around??? so far, the only thinkg i can do is go for a EG or EK gearbox, but i really don't know if it will fit... my sol only got 2nd, 4th and R gear.. the 1st, 3th, and 5th is totally fucked and can't gear in at all.... i am really really crazy abt transfering the ownership and get it register... PLS PLS PLS help...

Unhappy

the reason why I am so confused is that, everyone gives me difference ans.... it just feel like they all just want the business. when i ask "A", and "A" got a EG, he says EG fit, ONLY EG fit. however, when i ask "B", and he got a EK on hand, he says only EK fit. that's why i am so sick now....
like yesterday, i called the garage, (my sol is putted there) said i found an EK, but he said Ek can't fit, coz the drive "SHAFE" (sth like tat, i am not very sure what that is) doesn't fit... ONLY EG6 can fit in.
then i call back to the guy that got the EK, he said "no.. ONLY EK can do the job"
tat why i am so worry now....
TO Killa CRX:you said as long as it's a b engines, it will be fit. How abt b16b?? is tat ok too??

Re: PLS PLS PLS Help my delsol...

yeah
anything second generation thats a B should work...a b16b has higher gearing than your OE tranny..this will cause faster acceleration..as far as the tranny goes

Here's a short and organized answer for you. Here's what motors you should be looking for if you want to replace your transmission with an identical transmission. You need either an S21 or Y21 transmission. I personally would look for a Y21 since you already have that. Here are the cars that will have the transmission you seek:

B16A3 motor
------------
EG6/EG9 chassis: '93 - '95 Civic SiR II (Japan)
EG2 chassis: '93 - '95 Del Sol SiR (Japan / Europe)
EG2 chassis: '93 - '95 Del Sol VTEC (USA)

B16A2 motor
------------
EG2 chassis: '96 - '97 Del Sol SiR (Japan / Europe)
EG2 chassis: '96 - '97 Del Sol VTEC (USA)
EK4 chassis: '99 - '00 Civic Si (USA)

For reference, all cars listed are the EG chassis except for the '99 - '00 Civic Si. That is an EK chassis. That is why people are confusing you. These cars use the same motor and transmission that you have and their transmissions will fit your motor directly.

Now, to venture away a bit, you can use the transmission from any other B-series motor such as the B16B (Civic Type-R), B18B (Integra GS/RS/LS), B18C/C1 (Integra GS-R), and B18C/C5 (Integra Type-R). However these transmissions have slightly different gearing and may help/hurt your performance. I would recommend looking for the transmission that you already have out of the cars I have listed above.

Yeah, I agree with you there. If he has located a B16B transmission for a decent price, might as well go with that. The gearing for the B16B transmission is the same as the ratios for the B16A - they're identical. Although the casing might be slightly different (not sure there), I would imagine it would still bolt right up. Might even get one with a LSD if you're lucky.

Re: PLS PLS PLS Help my delsol...

I believe that casings are the same...But the O.E LSD is what gives it its appeal for the street..as long as its retaining an LSD then its def your best bet..even if its only a little bit more than any others you might find...but dont overpay ....but i think were all pretty much on the same page here
