Question 2001 grand put fuel pump and filter in,started up fine. Now wont start. Help!

I have a 2001 Grand Am, the car would not start. Had a friend put it on his truck and brought it home. Took it off the truck and it startrd. 2 weeks later it quit again. Dropped the tand a put in a new fuel pump and filter. The car again quit after a week.(yesterday). It seems if the tank is put at an angle(being pulled up on the bed of a truck, dropping tank) it will start. Another friend said his brothers did that and that is was the fuel shut off switch in the trunk. Any ideas. Let me know.
Thanks

Re: 2001 grand put fuel pump and filter in,started up fine. Now wont start. Help!

Hello, my friend, I have exactly the same problem as you. After I unload the car from the truck at the dealer, it turn on.

Two weeks ago I fixed the "Ignition switch" and "Key cylinder" problems but now I have this issue.

One technician from the dealer was in my house and regarding his disgnostic I have to chance the fuel pump...I am not sure about this diagnostic, he checked the pump pressure and it was cero.

What I did was full the fuel tank until 3/4, after I loaded the fuel I shaked the car in the rear bomper (To simulate being pulled up on the bed of a truck) and after this the car turn on.

My guess is that maybe the car has a problem with the floatting device in the fuel tank.

When you changed the fuel pump did you changed the floatting device also?

The most interesting situation is that always happens when I leave the car in an angle or when I park in a place that before to park I have to incline a lot the car.

I am serching and trying more stuffs to find the root of this problem, if you find something let me know. I do not want to change the fuel pump until be complitly sure this problems is solved with this change.

One more interseting comment, I thing this problem could be happening also in the Malibu 2001.

Mine turned out to be the anti-theft device. Check in see if your security light is lit up and blinking on your dash. If it is you have to put your key on the on position until the light stops blinking and becomes solid, then turn the key off then it should start. Thats where i am right now. Let me know how it works.

That you mention is the "Key cylinder" and "Ignition switch" that I changed, it was my initial problem but I changed both and it is solved. Now looks I have problems with the fuel pump.

I had similar problems with my Grand Am.
On three occasions it wouldn't start, stranded on highway, after stopping for gas etc.
Fould out after much ado, water was leaking through the cowl area and migrating on to BCM cables and module causing problems.

After having a body shop repair the leak, and the BCM replaced, so far so good.

Might be worth a look before spending money on other things.

Good luck!
