Is it a dog to slap another tranny in?
How long would it take to swap in a used automatic tranny into my 88 Sprint from a wrecker? Any special equipment, etc.?

I would use a hydraulic engine left for an auto tranny. Remove both CV axles, Just un-bolt the tranny from the engine, then the mounts(side and rear), remove the shift cable, remove any electronics from it, and remove the cooling lines that go to the radiator. It will make your day a lot nicer if you remove the radiator before you even start, just to get some extra room to get to places. Only takes 2 minutes to pull the radiator.
