CV joint noise?? 99 Rodeo

What sound comes from a CV joint when it's about to go out? I hear a grinding noise when I'm on the freeway and put my autmatic in 3rd gear and slightly press on and off the gas. The noise seems to come when I hit press gas and there is the additional torq being in a lower gear. As I let off the gas the noise goes away. Is it the CV joint or something else? Please help if you had the same issue.

Regards.

PS anyone know what's the situation on the fuel sending unit recall?

Stingray,

That does not sound like a CV joint. Usually they make a clicking noise that you can hear especially when turning. This sounds more like a tranny issue. Does it happen only in 3rd?

Make sure you rule out brake or wheel bearing noise as well. Check your CV joint boots for tears & grease leakage. This will indicate a CV issue. If they are not torn, the CV joints are fine. Get your front brakes & wheel bearings done at the same time, as the hubs need to be disassembled for rotor removal and bearing service.
G/luck

Maybe grinding was a bad word, it is more like a fant clicking or very muffled poping noise, (something you can hardly hear if you have the radio on). It happens in all my lower gears at higher RPMs. You only hear it when you accelerate or increase speed. It goes away right after I let off the gas or when I maintain speed, and only does it in lower gears. I hope it's not the tranny
