bosch +4 platinum??
I am about to change the plugs on my '00 Jetta VR6 and I was reading a guide that talked about gapping the plugs correctly. I never really thought about this before, but how do you gap a spark plug with 4 electrodes such as the bosch +4's?

Re: bosch +4 platinum??
Most single (ground) electrode platinum plugs are pre-gapped, and you definitely do not need to adjust +2's or +4's.

My '00 vr6 has ~66K miles and I've given some thought to replacing the plugs and wires as well. How difficult is it to replace the wires and plugs? Are special tools required and how much time is involved? I have some experience with cars, yet it's all prior to my car having more CPU power than my home pc.
Thanks in advance. |

Re: bosch +4 platinum??
There is a special tool for pulling the wires, do a google search on "VW spark plug tool". It's not absolutely necessary, but sometimes the wires can be really hard to disconnect. The hole for the plug is small, some thicker spark plug sockets won't fit.

Thanks, found the tool. ~$50 or so. Is there a performance difference between the 2 and 4 electrode spark plugs. I know the price is a little more, but is it worth it and does replacing the plugs after 66K miles necessitate replacing the plug wires?

Re: bosch +4 platinum??
I haven't seen a difference between the +2 and +4 plugs (I feel that the only difference is they may last longer), but can tell difference between single electrode platinum & +2, probably due to their different designs. I would try +2's if you're looking for slightly better performance. Plug wires should be fine @ 66K.
