Clueless on Amps..

I am so clueless when it comes to amps. I dont know how many channels i need, how many ohms, bridged, mono, stereo, its so confusing. Is there any website where i can read about all that stuff and learn. Basicly i want to know if i get 2 12" subs, and i want to run it off one amp, do i need a 2 channel amp or a 1 channel amp? And at what ohms do subs usually perform the best. What is the most typical type of ohm's people use for their subs and amp to run? thanks

I'd recommend that amp. The A4002T should work too, I think it's rated at 200watts x2 at 2 ohms. But I hate audiobahn now, so I'm a little biased.

Re: Clueless on Amps..

Because they are cheaply made and all that money goes into the pretty blue lights and making them shiny rather than build quality. My friend has had 2 audio Alum Qs blow on him.

And I sold him my old Audiobahn system a while back. The amp died 2 weeks after. It was kinda his fault because he was running it at an ohm load it couldn't handle. But I've always seen subwoofers go out from clipping before an amp blew because of the same reason.

You ever wonder why their amps need fans? A 1000 watt audiobahn amp has 2 fans incorporated into it, but a JL 1000/1 doesn't have any. This is just mere speculation, but I think it's because those piece of shit amps really need them to keep from overheating because they are poorly made.

that's kind of a blanket statement .... the fans are more than likely for show rather than a performance thing. Most of the "performance" fans are variable speed, so they are not loud during normal volume - only when you are pushing it.

Re: Clueless on Amps..

hmmm...well, I wouldn't recommend any of those amps. You want to look for either a 2 channel amp that is rated at least 200 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms for a mono block amp that is rated at least 400 watts x 1 at 1 ohm. What's your budget, I can help you out better if I know.

that's why I just said it was mere speculation, however, there is no doubt that audiobahn products aren't the best on the market.
