I have a 1998 Venture which we bought in 2001. We have been very satisfied with its performance. We have had an issue with the brakes doing a lot of grinding sounds, can't really tell if it's coming from the front, back or both. It mostly happens in the A.M. or when it's rainy and we go to Wal-Mart and park and take off again we hear the sounds again. The dealer ship is willing to look at it for $50.00 and probably say the same thing nothing wrong. I have had them checked by the original dealer that we had purchase the van from, and have had them check by other side companines like...Pep Boys, Econo Lube, Rapid Brake and a few others, And they all say the same thing Nothing wrong with them. I'd have to say the last time we had them check was 2003 May. My airbag light had been coming on so I took the chance and took our van to the dealership and had them fix my airbag light for 80.00 Probably something I've could of done, but they said that they could hear my brakes grind and if I want we can take a look at them for $50.00. Is this just something that is standard with 1998's Chevy Ventures??
Before I have them replaced should i use certain types of drums and disc and shoes and pads? They have been cleaned and adjusted each time we have taking our car to have the brakes check out. And the brakes work fine we have had to use them a few times and they stop when you need to. Any suggestions before getting the overhaul done to my brakes script |

Re: Brakes 1998 Chevrolet Venture
My 1998 Venture grinds and hollars and squeals. My wife says they sound like a hoovercraft when she stops, I have checked them several times, and replaced them once. They still do it. You can try to clean them out with compressed air or water, but they will do it again in a few days.

Chevy Venture brakes squeeking
I was also having trouble with my brakes squeeling/squeaking especially the rear drum brakes. I have already replaced the front brakes and rotors, with high quality from rockauto.com. I had purchased rear brakes as well but it ended up that I didn't need to replace them, they really only needed to be cleaned and adjusted. I used about 1 whole can of brake cleaner on each side. The problem I was having was one side was tighter that the other, and after removing the parking brake to pull out of the driveway it would just clunk and squeak. So try just cleaning them with brake cleaner.
