One F***ing inch

I was test fitting my 6 block and I was kinda confident cuz the block has a raised portion on the front of the oilpan to clear a K-mbr, so I was sure it will fit, I just wanted to see how it looked and how far back I can get it to sit. I put it on my crane put it in the engine bay and guess what, the front of the pan sits well but the engine will not go in cuz the BLOOdy steering rack sits too far behind the K-mbr . I had said if push come to shove I will take blights advice and mount it higher but this will not work cuz the bellhousing will not fit. I really fucking hate it when my progress is stoped by such a small freaking margin, an inch, DAMN IT would rather have it refuse cuz of 4 inches not one.
Well I can't seem to figure out a way, any ideas???? This is all that I have come up with so far,
A) put spacers on the 4 bolts that hold the K-mbr and make it sit an about a 1/4 of an inch lower, might help, but I doubt. If I could get someone to put longer studs, then I could sit the engine about an inch and a half lower and this will also boost handling except those studs don't seem easy to replace. I was actually trying to figure out how they got in there in the first place, at least the four on my T-ram were just huge 4 inch bolts and about as thick as a nickle circle.
B) A custom oilpan will cost me out the ass and don't wat to use that option cuz there are risks, and the design of an oilpan should never be altered unless with a reputable company like edlebrock.
Unfortunately I cant move the steering rack to the front cuz of so many reasons that will stop me, also I would like to move it lower around an inch to give me clearance but the mounting bolts are welded to the K and the steering column might nor reach. DARN IT. My brain is so fried right now. Also if I don't lower the K, then anytime I need to change the clutch, I will have to drop both engine and tranny about 2 inches to get clearance to the bell bolts cuz the bell is big and the tranny tunnel is so small. Ain't that some shit. Maybe I should have gone with an SR, thats what I get for trying to be diff. .

Nah I don't mind. I got it from some other forum. It's all over the internet now so I don't even know where it started.
About my username since everybody keeps asking, I originally came to AF with the username HondaImports back in Dec 2001. I was a member on www.purehonda.com since about March of that year. Long story short, the owner of purehonda.com no longer wanted to keep it open or couldn't afford the hosting so Igor over here at AF took all of us in. If you look at the join dates, you will see that there are a whole lot of people who joined in Dec '01 because of all of us coming over from purehonda. I trolled around the honda forums over here for awhile. I soon later changed my name to "J SPEC SilEighty" because I was looking for an S13 and wanted to make it into, well, a sileighty. After searching around here for about 4-5 months without any luck on finding a good s13 for sale, I went ahead and bought an S14, the one I have now. I just never changed my username from J SPEC SilEighty to match the car I have now. I use that name on these forums and 240sxforums. On the local car forums though, I go by the name S14KAT, which is also my screen name for AOL Instant Messanger. So yeah, I just got used to the name J SPEC SilEighty and stayed with that... it has nothing to do with my current car.

Re: One F***ing inch

Already considered that ghost but the only problem is for me to do that, I will need to cut a huge section out, and re-weld it, going to be costly and hard, I will need a firewall like a firebird which is crved. Hamering can't solve this problem I already considered that angle.
And it is not the tranny tunel thats the problem it is the steering rack, thats the obstacle.
Almost right G, except, I work on cars here in the south side and wan't to move to the performance side, and we all know just saying you can doesn't mean you can. Any goon can change brakes and replace an engine but swapping motors is a diff story. Hope to open a shop one day, .....................................Hope :^(

Re: One F***ing inch

WHAT???????? LHD is not going to help me, not to get smart but the position of the steering rack NOT steering column is the problem, swithching to LHD will still leave the rack at the same place, and I'll still be in the same position I am in now except more broke.
It is the Steering rack everybody, thats what is in my way, if I could move it an inch to the front I will be set, but I can't figure out a way. All I can come up are going to be major mods, and if you haven't being listening to me (no one does), I am doing this at home and I am currently jobless so no 2000 dollar ideas please. hell I just came back from the dollar theater cuz I couldn't afford 6 bucks for a ticket at the regular theater, and I paid in quaters too.

Re: One F***ing inch

I am not sure if you figured out your problem yet but. I wanted to know if you used a McKinney or unStable kit to mount your engine? Or are you just using the cross member from your front clip? Do you have a a front clip? I am trying my best to help but with out looking I am having a hard time figuring out how anything can help you with out spending too much.
