96 monte carlo won't start

My 96 Monte Carlo will not turn over (nothing) when the ignition key is turn to the start position. I have 12 volts (yellow wire) at ignition in the start position, I checked for 12 volts at the purple wire at starter and no voltage. All accessories work and have 12 Volts at battery. Checked VATS resistance coming from ignition switch, it seem ok, same as key. Help

I assume it's an auto trans. Can you access the neutral safety switch? When key is in crank position, it should have cranking voltage in via either a purple or yellow wire and out thru the purple wire connected to it which ends up at the S term on the starter solenoid. (of course, the trans has to be in either P or N). Now I don't have a diagram for that car sitting in front of me, but it should have a 5 amp cranking circuit fuse in the inside fuse block. Then again it could be out under the hood in one of the blocks out there. Lastly, if you have the factory theft deterrent option, you've got a module and a relay in that system that can affect cranking .

The neutral safety switch check out OK. It has the VATS (key chip) theft deterrent system, I've been looking for the anti theft relay and module and can't find them. Any idea where thay are.

Auto tans, neutral safety switch checked ok. Located anti theft relay behind glove box, it has 12 volts on the small yellow wire from neutral safety switch, large yellow wire from ignition and yellow black wire to anti theft module when ignition is in the start position. No volts on the purple wire. When I ground the yellow black wire, the purple wire has 12 volts and car starts for 2 to 5 seconds. Any ideas

Sounds like the relay works, but there's a module that tells the relay what to do. Did you check for that cranking circuit 5 amp fuse being good by sticking both sides with a light, voltmeter, or by pulling it out and ringing it out with an ohmmeter?

Cranking circuit 5 amp fuse checked out ok. Found anti theft module, is there a check for the module and can the anti theft system be reset.

It was the anti-theft module, the first one was defective, would not program itself. Installed the second one, turn on the key for five minute and then started the car. Thanks for the help.
