Re: power window just quit

either the motor is gone, or the wiring is broken

Re: power window just quit

Do you have any tips on how fix it? My window will power down, but not up. Would that point towards the problem being wiring? If its the wiring, how complicated is it to remove and replace? If its the motor, etc.
Thanks

Re: power window just quit

chances are if its wiring, then its just one spot thats messed up, and requires a bit of work. I would have no idea where that would be, but you could always start following wires :P

Matt,

I am having the same problem, two fold. I'm searching now for advice for this very problem. First, it was my right rear window (97 4Runner). I could power down but not up from the driver side control panel. It works fine from the right rear control so I know it's a driver side control issue. Recently, the driver side window quit and does the same thing, goes down and not up. I disassembled the motor and retested it and it works fine. I reset the spring mechanism, reset the window, retried and went down fine......Upon pressing the up ...Nada and back to square one. Did you get the problem fixed and if so, what was the issue?

Thumbs down slow windows

I also have a 94 4runner with window problems...the back windows take forever to power up and down and sometimes just quit. I don't know what the problem is, I just figured my car was 10 years old and the electrical is running worn. If this is a simple fix, I also would be excited to hear from someone on it.

I have the same problem sometimes, I found out that I had to much power on. I had an acc. pluged into the cigarette lighter, once I removed it, the windows worked fine. So check if you are drawing power from something.

Re: power window just quit...CHECK MASTER SWITCH!

It sounds like the same problem I had. My right rear winddow was slow going up for a while and then just quit. About two weeks later my driver side front quit as well. I corrected the problem recently by replacing the master control switch. It's modular and very simple to remove. What happens is the copper contact pads get worn and corode and the result is no contact. I was perplexed on my initial problem and I felt very reluctant taking it to the dealer aka "ka ching...ka ching..." so I took a blind leap and called the area junk yards looking for a master control switch for my rig.....there are not many 4 Runner's in my area and the one's there are are mostly parted out. I did find the exact part on Ebay for $50 (Small pittence compared to the $325 dealer wanted. Anyway, I plugged it in and it works fine. I took the old switch apart and found the contact pads fried big time. I guess thay get worn out from the thousands of times the windows are pressed coupled with electricity and moisture, corode down to the nub. I'm also wondering if too strong a current may have contributed to my problem because I also noticed a little smoke soot and other heat stress that didn't look right. A Toyota parts manager told me the Mid 90 Camry's experienced this same type of short out caused by the wires rubbing together at the door hinge "(the wires kinked, plastic wore out...add water...zap)" He wasn't aware of any issues with the 4 Runner but I'm checking it out this weekend. I'll let you know how I make out. As far as fixing it short term or if your handy with a solder, I'd look to replace the contact pads inside switch itself or go the route I went, junk yard or e-bay.

Good Luck!

CMason

Re: power window just quit

thanks for that gold piece of info cmason...i'll get my handy husband to get that part since I'm not the soldering type, but since I plan to run this baby into the ground, I would like it operational...I'll check ebay.

Re: power window just quit

another thing i heard about on a camry (might be related?) is that the rubber "window grippers" that hold on to the glass might have worn, and are slipping when fighting gravity to push the window back up--sounds like you're onto something more concrete with the master control switch, tho.

Talking maybe a fix

My friend has a 93 4runner with the same problem. So I removed the master control unit on the drivers door and sanded the contacts. It seems to work fine now. How long I am not sure. It looks as if the plastic and other parts could simply wear out in time.
