97 grand prix stereo prob

i diconnected the battery and my stereo/cd player now says LOC. i read other posts on how to get the code for unlocking the theftguard but when i try it the display reads -- inop--. i have never had to set up a code for the stereo and i bought the car used. bad stereo?? any help will be much appreciated.

The previous owner must have set a code for it and when the power was shut off it reset everything.If thats the case I think you need the code to unlock it.I dont think theres any way of getting around it.You might need to get a new one.But check the owners manual first because sometimes people write down the codes in there.

You need to contact the previous owner to get what the code was.

no all you need to do is go to the dealer and have them unlock it....or email me and I will tell you how to unlock it....
