How do you hold small parts for painting/spraying?
I was looking through the FAQ and noticed that there was nothing about this in there and it's part of modelling that I struggle with. I've seen that some of you pierce cocktail sticks into polystyrene and then somehow attach the parts to these cocktail sticks. Does anyone have any close-up photos they could help me with this? How do you attach the parts without covering up a bit of the part you want to paint?
Also how do you hand paint small parts? Many thanks Justin |

Well, I leave every part on the trees, but when I need to take it off, I cut the tree's apart, so each individual part has a little piece of sprue attached still, this is what you can tape your cocktail stick to.

that is very similar to the way I do it. Sometimes it depends on the part.

I use blue-tack, or fun tack. And attach the part to the end of a long skewer stick with that.

Re: How do you hold small parts for painting/spraying?
I often take a long way around to solve this problem. After cleaning the parts up I glue them back on the sprue, in a place that will not be seen when attached. All parts that will have the same color on the same sprue. With this method I don't have to do any touch-up on the parts, just snap them of when they are to be used. Another method of mine is Blue-tack on old scrapped thoothbrushes or I'll use my small clips on a stick to hold whatever part needs to be hold.

I take it off of the sprue and using a sprue piece blend it with fire to fit the shape of the piece, and like it cannot be glued with the melted plastic, I use a bit of superglue, beacuse after painted, you can remove it kindly without any force but its stronge enough to hold the air of the can or the airbrush in my case.

Re: How do you hold small parts for painting/spraying?
Leave the part holding onto the tree by just one long bit if possible, or add a long tooth pick to it.
Attach this to a clothe's peg to hold it as you paint
