Snap! goes the wing - help -

I snapped the wing on my BMW 320i Gr.5. I tried glueing it back 3 times and ended up snapping the other side.

I am at my wits end with this. I don't know how to fix it. There is a parts sheet in the model kit from Tamiya but I don't have a dealer around to bring it too.

I was hoping someone here could give me an idea on how to fix this. I was thinking about making my own but I don't have any plastic sheets and the hobby shop around here doesn't carry them.

Any suggestions, please feel free to reply.

Thanks in advance.

J. Barry

You can go to HLJ.com and order a new sprue to get the wing. This is the page with all the info on it http://www.hlj.com/faq/q41.html this will tell you what information you need to send them. Send them an email with the info at [email protected]. To get an idea of cost, theres a small box with a buch of prices on the back page. Look for the sprue wit the wing and then find the Yen price, this is about how much it will cost to get a new one. Hope this kind of helps.

Re: Snap! goes the wing - help -

I really appreciate all the great info you guys provided.

GTMike, I will get the glue.

It seems that I can order the whole tree from TamiyaAmerica. Because this is a very important model for me, I will do that.

But! I am alos going to fab the peice out of plastic. I have half of it done right now. I went out to my recycle bin and found a straight, flat peice of plastic to match, drew a template and cut it. So far it looks 'just like new'. Though I still need to glue parts together to see if it would work. It's good practice for me.

I already had to fab a mirror for this model. I was getting ready to glue it into place and it shot out of my fingers like a bean. 4 hours searching for it, I said, 'fawk this' and carved one out of wood. It came out perfect and even if Tamiya has that part on the tree that I'll buy, I'll keep my woodie

Making parts is awesome. I've fabbed up a few for this build so far. It is going to be the best build ever for me.

Thanks again to everyone. I will keep and use all that info for the future.

Peace.

If you are going to glue up the 3 pieces for the wing drill through the upright sections into the horizontal wing element and put straight pins or metal wire in for extra strength. I always add pins here and there in my models to make them sturdier and easier to build.

Sounds like a great idea. But I'm not sure if I have that much material to drill through. The upright parts are .1 cm and the horizontal wing element are just a tad thicker than that. I'm thinking, at best, I could find the thinnest sewing needle in the house, heat it, insert it into the horizontal wing and mark and make matching holes for it on the wing supports.

Don't heat it man, on part that thin you will only make it worse, use putty that is the best solution.

Sounds good to me. I've ordered the Tamiya Epoxy and will see how that fairs.
