86 cutlass speakers

i replaced the radio in my 86 cutlass supreme and when i raise the volume up half way the front speakers fade out.the radio only puts out 40W per speaker. how do i remove the front speakers to check them out. thanks john

I replaced the front and rear speakers back when I had my 86 cutlass supreme. IIRC, the front speakers are removed by first popping out the grille above them. The grille isnt held in with screws, just gently pry it out with a screwdriver and then you will have access to the screws to remove the speakers.

If you buy replacement speakers, get 3" (or is it 3.5"?) replacement speakers that have a mesh cover over the top. These are standard replacements and the mesh will prevent crap from falling through the grille onto the cone and making an annoying rattling sound.

The rear speakers are easily accessible from the trunk. They are an odd 4"x10" size.
