Question 2000 Grand Caravan-TailLight problem

I have a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan That I bought about 3 months ago and when im driving the passenger side blinker will light up and stay lit but when that happens the passenger rear taillight lights up and stays lit. Most of the time I can get it to go off with playing with the blinker arm.It also happens when the car is off sometimes Ill look out my window to see the passenger tailight lit up.Does anyone have any suggestions? Ive replaced all 3 bulbs on that side.

Are you saying that even with the ignition in OFF and key out the the taillight still turns on?

Re: 2000 Grand Caravan-TailLight problem

Body control module?
bad brake light switch?
bad grounding to rear lights?

does only the taillight come on when the Van is parked?
Are you sure it's not just bright sunlight outside making it seem to be on? (this happens to a lot of people)

Or, the smarty pants answer:
It's Gremlins I tell you.... Gremlins!

Yes the car can be totally off no key in ignition and it will do it.

The right blinker light will stay lit on the dash and thats when I can get out and look and the passenger taillight is lit up its only the middle bulb inside the lens there are 3 bulbs and its the middle one.I changed the bulbs and there is not any moisture or rust in the sockets.

Re: 2000 Grand Caravan-TailLight problem

Totally perplexed on this one,
But there has to be something that's causing it.

Take and disconnect the combo switch (steering coloumn) see if it goes away.
If not,
disconnect the headlamp switch, and see again if it goes away.

being the middle light, it sounds like the turn signal circuit is at fault, but that's a guess by assumption.

One way or another, one of those should stop the gremlins, and depending on which does it, the combo(turn signal) or headlight switch could just be bad.

But it's really kind of weird....
Maybe you should invite Stephen King over to write the sequel to Christine based on your van....

But, good luck!

Re: 2000 Grand Caravan-TailLight problem

Had this once on a GM and I replaced the "flasher" unit. Hey I maintain them but not a lot of repair so I am not sure what the real term is. They are relatively cheap so that may be a place to start.
