Cool Little advice?

Hey, how's it going? I was browsing around trying to find a new engine for my 1995 Eclipse RS when I stumbled upon your forum. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on rebuilding this type of engine from scratch, I planned on making it into a turbo. I have looked at all the options... from looking at junkyards to autozone and so forth for a "new" engine and have not found any as cheap as rebuilding one yourself. I was wanting to make something in the 500+ hp range and money is not really an object but not to get to crazy, I would like to have the car done in the next year. I have a great shop and all the manuals in the world, but I would like to ask your guys' opinions as to what you would like to see running the strip.

Re: Little advice?

if money is not a problem.. then most of the guys here would advice u to sell the1995 rs and buy a Eclipse GSX.... as far as i know.. i dont think it is possible to build a rs with over 500 hp... the most u can go will be around 350-380... but to build that much power ti would cost u around 5000+ dollars... the best bet would be to sell the rs and buy a GSX and then start modifying it... i'm sure all other will say the samething hope it helps and if u want to learn about tuboring the rs.. here is the link...

Re: Little advice?

See, the reason I am keeping the car is the fact that, ya know it was the first car I ever bought. Now that I have a job that I can afford to mod it, by gosh I am going to. The engine that is in it now has a rod knocking so unfortunatly I had to buy a new car. So I am turing the eclipse into a satuday night/sunday driving car. I could never get rid of it nor replace it, I will consider buying a GSX, but I still want to keep the RS, so still if anyone has advice on rebuilding the enige it would be helpfull. Ya know the best parts, cheapest prices, anything at this point would be helpful. All my friends think I am a moron and should just get rid of it and buy a civic, or be like them and get a cavelier.... I don't think so! I like having my eclipse, no one where I owns one, it's like living in a backwoods nightmare where everyone owns a truck, a cavelier, or some other pos from the 80's, there are no sports cars in my town. But anyway enough stupid ranting. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Little advice?

lol your looking at some big bucks if you want 500hp out of the 420a! then the other things you have to do like the tranny and suspension... if i were you just fuck around with this car for a little bit and save up some money and find a GST/GSX with a bad motor or needs some type of work cause when you get up and around 400hp in a FWD car... good luck moving! cause all your goin to do is spin! then if you look at slick... you will start breakin axles and trannys! if you really want to do this i will be willing to help but i strongly suggest that you rethink your project!

Re: Little advice?

I see your point I have been looking around for a GSX and found some pretty good ones for a little more than it would cost to do what explained earlier. The only bad thing is that I still need a new engine for the RS, any ideas where to find one? I have have searched all the junk yards and no one has a 2.0 DOHC to fit. I have found one online for about $1,750, comes with: engine block, gaskets, lifters and oil pump, with head(s) installed onto the block and push rods & rocker arms installed -- assembly is compression tested. I think that is pretty good when autozone is wanting to charge me $2,600 for just the block. Think I should go with this or do you have another place that might be cheaper?

Re: Little advice?

I hate to tell you buddy, and not to sound cold, but that engine is not going to fit in my 95 RS, it is like completely backwards from the engine that is in there now. Plus from what I have been told the 90-94 engines wont fit in a 95-99, I may be wrong, that is just what the guy at the dealership told me, and he may be a moron. Any one know any different?

sorry to say but you dont have a 420a in your 92 talon... if you do someone was a moron for putting it in there but other than that there is no way you have a 420a in a 92!

You wouldn't be close to Lakeville would ya?

I have a cousin over there too and he checked out the car, already sent payment also, but never hurts to have a pro check out the car too.
