turbo question from iraq

okay, i'm in the army and currently in iraq with 1st armored division. i will have about 7g's to spend on my 97 civic ex when i get home in 2 months and i was wondering which route i should take. the Y8 has about 85,000 on it right now but is still running strong. i want to boost it with the edel. kit but i am affraid to run boost on a motor with that many miles. is this a valid concern? i thought about doing a swap but i really want to be able to drive a boosted car. what should i do? i've thought about doing internals along with the turbo, but i would like to have some money left over when all is said and done. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1st thing you should do is get a leak down test done if that find then its not going to matter if you have 85,000 miles i seen people with 100k + miles on there car and get a turbo as long as you get it tuned and dont beat the crap out of and do the maint on it you should be fine

Re: turbo question from iraq

there's plenty of ways you can go. If you want to boost your d16y8 i suggest getting a compression test also. Then if all's ok boost it. Or you could get a b16a2 or b18b or b18c1 for about 3k and install it yourself and with the other 4k buy a turbokit. If you do this route i suggest you get a good fuel management like hondata, or AEM E-Manage. And stay low boost for a while 6-8psi. If you go the swap and then boost route i'm pretty sure that'll use up 7k. But if you turbo the D expect around 195whp-210whp w/ 10psi, with the B expect around 200whp w/ about 6psi. A lot of people will tell you to go w/ a b18b if you swap, but i suggest getting a b16a or b18c1.

I would say stay with the D. When you switch to any B series youll gain around 150 pounds. So thatll kill off a good 10-15 of your new found horsepower. And you also know what that engine you have has been threw (high rev damage, going over on oil changes and etc.) so i would stay with the D and get new pistons and rods, fuel management unit, fuel pump, injectors and call it all 9psi. It could be from $4,200-$4,600 and about 220-225 hp at the crank. (get a really beefy clutch)
