Chrome rims and brake temperature

Today a friend and I installed a set of new 235/55/H17's on my Aurora with the chrome 2000 SSEi 17" rims. Tonight after going for a spirited drive, I noticed the surface temps of the rim to be quite hot (front especially)

Bear in mind I have Rototech cross drilled and slotted brakes with Wagner ThermoQuiet ceramic pads. Do Aurora owners with the stock 16" or any aftermarket chrome or chrome plated rims notice high temperatures on the surface of the rim?

The heat disapates fast (about 5 mins and its ok to lay a hand on for a while) but I am worried about the finish of the rim.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Re: Chrome rims and brake temperature

I tried doing a brake job on my 95 w/ stock rims right after driving home and found the rim left my fingers a little pink and tender before I could gently put the sombitch down. I wait a bit now. I haven't had any issues with discoloration, but could be more of an issue with a replacement if they weren't having that in mind.

Don't get me wrong- I'm not giving the engineers that put those wheels on the aurora credit w/o proof. They probably just got lucky they don't scorch

Re: Chrome rims and brake temperature

I drove home 3hrs today, and the brakes, rims and tires seemed fine, I think it was just due to some spirited driving behind a C5 50th Anniversary Vette

Re: Chrome rims and brake temperature

I have chromies on my black/black '98 and haven't seen this problem with the stock rotors/pads.
