Airbox mod -- service engine soon light.

Hey everyone -- hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. On my 99, I followed the instructions on the airbox mod (quite easy -- love the FREE part of it as well!) -- anyways, I put everything back together, and was in such a rush to start it up and take it for a ride, I forgot to plug the sensor back in. Therefore, the service engine soon light came on. After I got back, I plugged it back in -- but the light still hasn't come off (even after a couple restarts). Is this something that will stay on for a while till the computer knows that it's back in place --- or could there possibly be something else causing it to come on? I wasn't sure if I needed to take it to a mechanic and have him reset it or not. According to the manual, it should turn off on it's own.

If this helps, I pulled out both resonators, and put a pvc cap into the tube....just as the instructions asked. Has anyone else seen this?

OK. I just did this mod tonight to my Aurora, we use a 1.5" PVC cap to replace the resonator, but it seemed a BIT to big. In fact it began to tear the rubber intake tube, so I said "nutz to that" What size PVC cap did you use and how does it fit in the opening?

Secondly. If your IAT sensor is back in, and the SES doesnt go off, I would disconnect the battery and reset the PCM and diagnostic system. Better yet, like my wonky ETCBM, the car may fix itself (don't ask...

I dropped in a 33-2086 K&N filter and its great.

I did the same thing just before going on a trip from Virginia to Texas. I remembered as I was pulling out of my driveway and plugged the sensor back in. I was worried b/c the light was still on. Somewhere in the middle of Tennessee or so, it finally went off. I'd say this was about 9 hours of driving and 5-600 miles. So..it'll eventually go off(at least mine did).

i used one of these. It expands so i not only have the clamp to seal it but that property as well. Mesure the hole then go down to your plumbers supply store..

Thanks for the replies. I had a feeling after a few days of driving the light may take care of itself. -- I believe my cap was 1.5" as well, but I can't remember. If I get under the hood tomorrow, I'll let you know. I'm kinda interested in seeing if it's tearing mine now as well.


Already have my Magna Flow exhaust on order -- next I want to get the throttle body. I will admit, the idea of the airbox mod was awesome. Love the sound it gives when you open it up on the highway.

NICE! You'll love the dual Magnaflows...I get many many compliments for my setup. The 80mm TB will be a great addition to your performance resume. So cool to see more Auroras being modded out. I bet you love that nice whine at high revs..heheh good fun!

Oh yeah -- I believe it was YOUR video that made me decide to stick with magnaflow. There is a place here in my town in Indy that does a good job with exhaust systems -- I told him what I wanted and he recommened the magnaflow, with the dual tips. So now I play the waiting game, and when they get them in I'm going to drop her off.

Throttle body may take a minute. I found out yesterday after I had the diamond gloss put on my car, that my back trunk lid's paint is going bad. Starting to fade, ect. -- may have to get that taken care of. But, before becoming a member of this forum, I thought there was no hope for any mods to this car.

I have seen the SS package in person and its great, except for the wing...it really doesnt need it. If you want more clips and vids I have some good ones on my hard drive, catch me on YM, AIM or MSN if you have them and I can share some recent vids with you.

Wow, I used a 2" PVC pipe cap (from Menards, for those of you in the Midwestern US) and it fit like a glove...

i guess the diameter of the res hole in the intake tube is more on the 98 then on the 96. Dont really matter tho, with my new K&N and gutted airbox, she whines like no bodies business, besides, I want to hear my exhaust too

Any problem if I remove the resonator baffle and plug the hole w/o doing the rest of the mods at this time? What would that accomplish - same HP, but with louder exhaust?

Might be a bit of an HP increase but nothing noticeable, but ya it will get whinier.

Take the 2 seconds and remove the yellow plastic in the top of the box...its worth it, with my exhaust and now the gutted box with K&N I can feel the difference and hear the difference!
