300zx vs 3000gt
hello
im looking into either of these cars, my budget is 10 grand... i dont know which car to choose, but i want to keep gas mileage in mind because gas prices are skyrocketing and i cant pay premium. so that pretty much knocks out the turbo models correct? which would be easier/cheaper to maintain? which one is more reliable? |

3000GT is a nice car. It's mitsubishi's version of a camaro almost. But with both of these cars you WONT get good miles per gallon.
The tanks in these cars are huge and can be as much as a 17 Gallon tank. The MPG on these cars will probably be 20 City /26 Highway at best. If you have 10 grand there are other alternatives. For 10 Grand you could buy a good 1995 Eclipse GSX that is AWD and has Dual Over Head Cam and is a 4 cyl. With 10 grand you could probably get a nice Spyder too. 2G Eclipse DSM'S have hundreds of aftermarket upgrades and as long as it's not a GS-T the MPG will be good. If you later on decide to upgrade a 95-99 GSX you can go as much as 600+ HP. For 10 grand you could also get a decent 1993-94 Mazda RX-7 if you can find one and those things are probably faster than both of the cars you want and they take regular unleaded gas. There's also hundreds of upgrades you can do to an FD3S Rotary Engine. I've seen RX-7's being upgraded as much as 800+ HP. For 10 Grand you could also get a practically new Acura Integra GSR with a 1.8L DOHC V-Tec Engine. Moddified with upgrades and it can be really fast. If you buy a 3000 GT VR4 you will have to fill up the tank every 200 miles. A 3000 GT VR4 is pretty much your Sunday Night street race car. And with 320 HP it really is the only desirable 3000GT because the SL version is just plain weak for that kind of cash although you might hog off with 250 Miles per tank. Also you dont need to spend 10 grand to get a cool car, half as much will get you any other car that is also high performance. If you save half of what you spend you can later decide to sell the car you bought for $5,000 and sell it for like $4,000 and with the $5,000 you saved you could buy a car you REALLY will love. Just my 2 Cents. -Nexagen |

i thought that eclipses werent that reliable?? and the rotary engine is going to be a PITA to fix if i get problems because i dont really have any knowledge of rotary engines... not to mention the price for parts anyhow, ill still be searching thanks again for the post. |

Re: 300zx vs 3000gt
RX-7 is indeed a pain in the ass to fix, stay far away from it. The Eclipse can be reliable if you take good care of it. You can't drive it like any old Honda or Toyota and expect it to last, though. And you can get decent mileage on a NA 300ZX.

Re: 300zx vs 3000gt
the 300zx has a 19 gallon tank and get about a 18 mpg average with mine. i would definitely go with a 300zx because for one, it is rwd and 3000gt isn't, and two, imo it looks a hell of a lot better. but one bad thing, i don't know about the 3000gt, but the 300zx requires premium fuel.

Fill up the tank every 200? Try about 400
![]() 10G can get you a good first generation VR4 or 300ZX. Both are great looking cars with great power. I got my VR4s because they were the best looking cars on the road. Ive been told (since I don't own the trim line) that the 3000SL also requires premium gas. To be honest with you, if cost of gas is a concern for you then insurance probably is also. Neither the 3K or 300Z are going to be inexpensive to own.
