Instrument panel dont work for crap...

I just bought a '90 Civic DX about a week ago. I knew that the speedo wasn't working, so I bought a new speedo cable and put it in. I go to test drive it and it doesn't work. I notice that the temp guage always says that I'm half between hot and cold. The gas guage said I had a 1/4 tank, so I filled it up, with a whole 3 gallons, and now it says I have 3/4 tank. The check engine light is constantly on, and the guy I bought it from says that it was becuz of the intake that was installed. This guy works at a custom car shop, so I didn't think twice about what he said... Now that I realize all of these other problems, I'm thinking that he didn't know what in hell he was talkin about. If any of you have any idea what is stopping the instrument panel from working... Plz help! The lights and all the indicators work fine on it, just not the guages. I haven't had a chance to spin the cable from the connection at the transaxle to see if it will turn the speedo or not, so I dont know if its the gear down there. I have a bad feeling its possibly sumthing with the computer? Anyway, any help would be great!

well i have a 88 dx and my gauges work but none of my warning lioghts work right the oil, battery and check engine light come on for no reason all the time. I havent found a way to fix those but i think they are somewhat compicated and i think it is when the friend i bought it from put in the new d15. Just go buy a new 90-91 SI panel then you will have a rpm tach and the stuff will work
