Bought a new civic today.

Yea, got a 2001 Civic EX

1.7 v-tec engine with 127 stock horsepower
2 door coupe
5 speed transmission
16,960 miles

It's pretty damn clean, inside and out (as expected for a 3 year old car with only 17k miles)

Images below:

I'm actually really suprised how fast it was... I got up to 83-84 on the on ramp to the freeway. I'm not going to mod it that much, just want around 150-160hp instead of the 130, so things will fallow. Also I'm going to lower it a little bit, about and inch or and inch and a half and put some 16 or 17 rims on instead of the steeles. Also a short shifter, this thing is a little to long for my taste.

Suggestions to gain 20-50hp safely? I'm already going to do cold air, so that's not a problem. Also I don't want any cans, I'm only going to consider exhaust that DON'T sound and look like shit.

Re: Bought a new civic today.

A lot of civic owners like the Apex'i N1 because it's not extremely loud. As for the minor hp gains you're looking for, I would recommend simple bolt-ons with a few minor head modifications. Have you considered doing any other suspension work besides lowering?

Re: Bought a new civic today.

Well coilovers that are going to lower it that inch. But I was going to get apex'i N1 dual for my 240sx, which I sold. I liked them. Although I havent looked at them for a civic, the 3' pipe for the s13 would be an overkill and suck ass on a civic. The 240sx w/sr20 that.

I'm not suprised how slow it was... I got up to 83-84 in 5 minutes. I'm not going to mod it that much because it's just a grocery-getter, and doing so would be stupid, but 150-160hp instead of the 130 will still be slow. I'm going to lower it a little bit because I'm Mexican, about and inch or and inch and a half and put some heavy ass ricey rims on instead of the steeles. Also a short shifter to shave 5 seconds in the 1/4, this thing is a little to long for my taste.

Suggestions to gain 20-50hp safely? I'm already going to do cold air to shave another 5 seconds, so that's not a problem. Also I don't want any cans, I'm only going to consider exhaust that DON'T sound and look like shit since good sound = mad horsepower.

Re: Bought a new civic today.

Actually 127 stock hp is good for a civic, moron. Also it's not really slow, and not a 'grocery getter". The short shifter because it dosent feel right that high, I want it lower. Cold air intake because cold air = good, also it sounds better. And lastly I don't care if some loud ass peice of shit muffler gives more HP, it wouldn't be worth it.

Re: Bought a new civic today.

I'm just fuckin with you man. They are grocery getters, and you'll never beat anything on the road.. A Blazer is faster than your car. Props for wanting to give it some guts but the 01+'s have hardly any potential until you get into motor swaps, huge suspension overhauls, and thousands of $'s that could have been spent on buying a sports car. Leave it stock like that model was meant to be because in modding it you'll always want it to be faster, and it never will be without big bucks.

Re: Bought a new civic today.

haha... sometimes the truth comes out when a person is drunk... as for the civic congrats.. i got the same one except the dx model... first thing i did was take out the spare parts from the trunk including the spare... you could feel less weight distribution during acceleration plus its lighter... your pretty much gonna have to stick with bolt ons to gain some power but not much.... just 2 days ago we were down at the dyno and were just toying around a bit but with the basic h/i/e my car was puttin out 132hp then we went with a bigger bore throttle body 60mm afterwards and the tests ran at 141hp... i have no complaints but then again i had to give back the throttle body cause the shop was experimenting with it.

If you want speed. Honestly swap out the engine. Get some bolt ons for right now becasue they ARE "Bolt -On's" and you can probably take them off Reuse them. Engine swaps i recommend are the ever so overrated B16 (Civic Si Engine). Don't get me wrong its a bad ass engine, its hell of a lot better then my engine but, its WAY overpriced( if you got the money to blow). If you are looking into turbos, superchargers get a B18B is a really good engine for that. OK im rambling now anyway, Nice car, keep it like that don't put any stupid lights (clear lights with red or some gay shit) on it. If you really want power start saving now, if not, you have a ncie car keep it how it is.

Re: Bought a new civic today.

keyword WAS... i had to give back the throttle body... now its back to 132hp... sometime by the end of the month we are going to put in a test turbo to see what we can push with the stock internals and stuff... based on the throttle body tests the guys at the shop were saying that the throttle bodys on the 7th gens are more restrictive than previous gens... if this is true or not based on what i saw there was a gain of 9hp gain over what was already there... you know what though... i forgot to compare the torque... imma give them a call in the morning or something
