It snapped off! Can it be fixed?
Ok the piece that comes OUT of the tranny that slides in and out to change the gears broke off. At the very end, in the middle of the hole that the pin would go into.
I have so far had 3 ideas on how to "fix" this. 1. Cut it off at a solid point about an inch back and get a piece from another tranny and weld that back on. 2. Drill a hole through the piece and get some sort of metal piece or heavy wire and wrap it around the front creating a new hole for the pin and then putting a rivet or cotter pin through the hole to hold it in place. Then place a small hose clamp to give it some extra strength. 3. Get a bigger piece of metal, bore one end out about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch deep, sliding it over the broken piece on the tranny, and having that welded on. Then bore the hold out in the shift linkage to accept the new bigger piece. Any ideas, guys?

Re: It snapped off! Can it be fixed?
amazing, IMO, but use bar stock, bore out one end to slide on, and machine down the other side so the shift linkage will slide on.
Better yet, get a new trans! |

Your ideas sound pretty good but i wouldnt weld it on there. Make sure you are gonna be able to disconnect it easily like the stock one or else your just going to make things harder for you in the long run, like if you end up doing a swap or need to take the tranny out.
