Question Camshaft Position Sensor question

I have a 2000 Leganza that the Check Engine light has been coming on & off for a little while. When I took it to my local AutoZone, they told me it was the Camshaft Position Sensor, and if I didn't replace it soon it would eventually make my car not start. I've since seen this....
http://www.auto-solve.com/cid.htm stating that it will not make the car not start, as it only times injector pulses.

My question is, I'm about to go on a roadtrip & I didn't know if I could drive it like this or if it should be taken care of before the trip?

Thanks.

I just had mine replaced, (it is a defective part) I drove it for 3 months with the light on. You'll probably be okay, depends on how long off & on is for you. Call the 800 number on the window or go to http://www.daewoous.com/ to find the nearest suzuki dealership and have it checked NOW, if your warranty is still good they will replace it for free and if anything fails after that they have to fix it too. ( I got mine in with about 150 miles left on the warranty) otherewise it will cost a pretty penny. Good luck

p.s. I got a new CD/Radio out of it too.

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor question

Very nice. I've found somewhere online that will sell the part for $80 + $10 shipping.

It is fairly easy to get to and it took them about 15 or 20 minutes to get it done.

Good Luck

Lanos camshaft position sensor

I've ordered a camshaft position sensor from Univ Truck (562-0589) and hope to have it here in the next week or so. Question is: does anyone know of a site that shows the sensor location so I can replace this myself? Tried Autozone's site, but they don't show it. BTW, Univ Truck cut me a deal on this since I've had so many problems with this *&^%#@&^% car -- $68, which they said was wholesale.

Thanks.

That isn't too bad they were going to charge me 285 to do mine but it was still under the mileage warranty so I took it to Hot Springs and had it done for free. What model is it? I saw about 9 of them sitting in the back of the service area yesterday 6/17/04. I had to get a new key made and they can't get the remote to work.

Re: Re: Lanos camshaft position sensor

My husband just recently replaced the camshaft position sensor in my daewoo nubira. The sensor is located and replaced in the same fashion as in my nubira. I was able to purchase mine for 50 dollars from the dealership I purchased my car from. Here is a site with step by step instructions on how to change the sensor.

also to get parts inexpensively for your daewoo I would suggest this website also.

cam position sensor

So you are saying that even when you change the battery you should run the scan test? Where do you get this equipment? I thought that changing the cam position sensor would be a fairly easy job, but I didn't know anything about having to use this scan tool.

Did we get ripped off?

My wife's 1999 Daewoo Nubira's timing belt went when the car had only 35,000 miles on it. The dealerships service department had to replace the head and timing belt at no caost to us(was covered under warranty). Then we had to bring it backin less than a week because the "check engine" light came on, they told us it was a defective camshaft sensor, which they said was not covered under the warranty. We had to shell out $341.00 to get this repaired. Should this repair had been covered under the warranty?

Yes that is covered under warranty, BUT... you have to take it to a specific dealership. Call 888-643-2396, and leave a message they will call you back in a couple of days. Request a reimbursment, because it is covered you still had 1000 miles left on that warranty.

Camshaft Position Sensor

The "engine light" on my car has been going on and off for 7 or 8 months, no other problems from this. Because the car (99 Daewoo Leganza) will not pass inspection until a camshift position sensor is installed, I have purchased the part at Big D Kia in Dallas for $30.08, including tax. Their phone is 214-660-1800; address 11550 NW Hwy, Dallas, TX 75218. You should not have a problem on trip, but to get the inspection sticker it will have to be repaired. The repair time is about one ane one-half hours.
Hope you are blessed with a safe trip!

Recall Alert

I just got a call from Daewoo motors There has been a recall on the camshaft sensor over 11k cars are on it... . I gave them my VIN and was told that it was on the list for replacement. A third party company will get the registration information on those that are affected and send out information on where you can take your vehicle for free repairs. I was told that the "official letter" is going out at the end of this month but here is the number to call and make sure that you are this list. 1-877-362-1234

Even though I had it replaced just 3 months ago I am going to get it replaced again just in case.

Thanks for this information. When I called Daewoo America in California, they said if I had already had the camshaft position sensor replaced, to keep the receipts for reimbursement. I have a 99 Daewoo and it is not on the the current list for "replacement," but it is on their "Inspection List." Info from them should come to all of us the end of August. I have not had the sensor replaced eventhough the engine light is off and on for the last few months. It will have to be replaced to pass Texas State Inspsection...next year. We appreicate you guys and you taking time to post update information important to all of us! Again, Big D Kia in Dallas has the "camshaft positon sensor" part for $30.80 including tax.
