Power Window and Fan Switch not working...

Hi all,

My drivers side power window switch isn't working...how the heck do I get to it to test it?

The fan switch isn't working either. It will not work on positions 1, 2, or 3 but will work on 4 and 5. Anyone experience this problem before? Again, similar problem...how do I get to it to test and/or replace?

Thanks,
Rick

Re: Power Window and Fan Switch not working...

It would be easier to help you if you posted make model and year of your car without looking at your profile.

Your fan speed problem is more than likely caused by a bad blower motor resistor, located under the front passenger's feet forward of the blower motor. Just follow the wiring harness from the blower to your resistor.

As for your window not working that I would bet is a window motor problem. But if you want remove the door panel with a test light clipped to the motor connector rock the switch back and forth making sure you have power on both wires depending on the switch position. If you have power at the wires than its a motor problem.

oops...

Sorry, make and model...2001 Grand Am GT sedan!

On the power window...how do I remove the door panel to get at the motor? How do I get to the switch on the door? Someone at one point said just prop a screwdriver under and pop it off...is this true?

Thanks,
Rick

Window motor and heater switch

I've heard of this a lot, and I also own a 2001 GA. Same problems! Doesn't work on 1 & 2, but works on 3, 4, 5. Window is getting fussy...not working all the time, and sensitive. I think GM needs to adress thier electrical engineering, because in all of my experience, it seems like it's the switches and relays they use...they cost less. It could be the motor in the window, but doubt it. I'll let you know with some investigating.
